School Registered Nurse | Naperville, Illinois

A dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) is needed to provide 1:1 nursing care for a student in an Early Childhood Program in Wheaton, IL. This contract position requires commuting to the student's home in Winfield, IL each morning before accompanying the student to school by bus. The nurse must ensure the students safety and health needs are met throughout the school day.

Location: Wheaton, IL with daily travel to the students home in Winfield, IL (zip code 60187). Candidates must confirm the commute feasibility prior to applying.

Position Details:

  • Start Date: ASAP through May 28, 2026
  • Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, full school days (approximately 8:15 AM to 3:30 PM)
  • Thursday and Friday, half days from 9:00 AM to 11:45 AM
  • Responsibilities include reporting to the students home around 8:15 AM, accompanying the student to school by bus, and providing continuous care during the school day.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Care for a student with chronic lung disease requiring tracheostomy and ventilator support during sleep
  • Manage complex medical needs including pulmonary hypertension, hypopituitarism, dysphagia, bilateral hearing loss, Autism Spectrum Disorder, history of adrenal crisis, and gastrostomy tube (G-tube) feeding
  • Perform tracheostomy suctioning and insertion as needed; be vigilant about potential trach dislodgement
  • Recognize signs of adrenal crisis and administer Act-O-Vial injection of SoluCortef in emergencies
  • Collaborate with school staff and family to support the students health and educational needs

Qualifications:

  • Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in Illinois
  • Proven school nursing experience (LPNs will not be considered)
  • Skilled in tracheostomy care and emergency interventions
  • Ability to commute daily to the students home and accompany the student by bus
