Registered Nurse School Setting in Chicago, IL

A unique opportunity is available for a dedicated Registered Nurse to provide one-on-one care for a student enrolled in an Early Childhood program in the Wheaton, IL area. This contract position involves supporting a student with complex medical needs, including chronic lung disease with tracheostomy, ventilator dependence during sleep, pulmonary hypertension, hypopituitarism, dysphagia, bilateral hearing loss, Autism Spectrum Disorder, history of adrenal crisis, and G-tube feeding.

Location and Schedule:

  • Position is based in Wheaton, IL (zip code 60187).
  • Nurse will travel to the student's home in Winfield, IL each morning and accompany the student via bus to and from school. Candidates should confirm the commute feasibility before applying.
  • Work hours are approximately 8:15 AM to 3:30 PM Monday through Wednesday.
  • Thursday and Friday are half days with hours from 9:00 AM to 11:45 AM.
  • Assignment starts ASAP and runs through May 28, 2026.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois is required.
  • Previous experience working in a school nursing environment.
  • Skilled in tracheostomy care including suctioning and insertion.
  • Capability to identify and respond to adrenal crisis, including administration of Act-O-Vial SoluCortef injection.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex medical issues simultaneously.
  • LPNs are not eligible for this position.
