RN School Contract

A licensed Registered Nurse (RN) with school nursing experience is needed to provide dedicated one-on-one care for a student with complex medical needs. This contract position supports a student enrolled in an Early Childhood Program and requires a compassionate nurse who is skilled in tracheostomy care, emergency interventions, and familiar with pediatric nursing in educational settings.

Location: Wheaton, IL with daily reporting to the students home in Winfield, IL and accompanying the student via bus to and from school. Candidates must confirm that commuting arrangements are feasible before applying.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized nursing care for a student with chronic lung disease, ventilator dependence (while sleeping), tracheostomy, pulmonary hypertension, hypopituitarism, dysphagia, bilateral hearing loss, autism spectrum disorder, history of adrenal crisis, and G-tube care
  • Monitor and manage trach suctioning and perform trach reinsertion as needed
  • Recognize signs of adrenal crisis and administer Act-O-Vial injection of SoluCortef promptly during emergencies
  • Accompany the student to and from school daily, including riding the bus
  • Maintain accurate documentation and communication with school staff and caregivers
  • Work hours: approximately 8:15 AM to 3:30 PM Monday through Wednesday; Thursday and Friday are half days from 9:00 AM to 11:45 AM
  • Contract duration: ASAP start through May 28, 2026

Qualifications:

  • Current Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license required (LPNs not accepted)
  • Prior experience in school nursing is essential
  • Proficiency in trach care, including suctioning and insertion
  • Skilled in emergency response, especially adrenal crisis management
  • Patience and adaptability to work with a student who may self-remove medical devices
