Operating Room Certified Surgical Technologist: Full-Time

4-Day Work Week, No Weekends, No Call, No Holidays

 

Physicians Surgery Center of Tidewater is seeking a Full-Time Certified Surgical Technologist. We are a busy multispecialty surgery center serving Virginia Beach and an affiliate of United Surgical Partners International (USPI). USPI’s mission is to care for each patient and their family as if they were our own. Each patient, each family, each and every time.

The Certified Surgical Technologist is responsible for all departmental functions in support of USPI’s mission, vision, and facility goals. This position establishes effective working relationships with all constituencies including patients, physicians, employees, volunteers and vendors. The Certified Surgical Technologist scrubs for surgical procedures and demonstrates competence while working with leadership in meeting facility safety, quality, customer service, and financial goals.

Qualifications:

· Education: High school graduate or equivalent

· Experience: Previous experience in an ambulatory surgical center is strongly preferred

· Certifications: CST current certification; BLS required

· Good command of the English language, both verbal and written

· Positive attitude and willingness to learn

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Must possess a strong knowledge of surgical procedures and management of the surgical patient

· Understanding of aseptic techniques and their implementation

· Independent decision making skills - ability to quickly adapt to changing conditions of the patient when needed

· Excellent customer service skills - must be an excellent team player and have the ability to communicate with patients, employees, and medical staff

· Advocate of patient safety and quality of care

Approximately three to six months of related experience, preferred, in order to learn sterile techniques, become familiar with anesthesia equipment and cleaning procedures, and learn inventory techniques. Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with the surgical team and maintain effective contacts with physicians and hospital employees. Familiarity and manual dexterity required with all basic surgical instruments, supplies, equipment and procedures. Basic analytical skills necessary to develop solutions to problems concerning technical needs of surgery. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when conducting procedures and operating special computer software. BLS-HCP Certification required and/or must be obtained within 90 days of hire. WORKING CONDITIONS Surgical areas work environment with frequent exposure to unpleasant odors from disinfectant solutions/chemicals. Possible exposure to infectious agents when handling instruments or hazardous materials. Potential for personal harm or injury is reduced when proper safety and health precautions are followed.
