Registered Nurse PACU at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Trophy Club:

·       Under the supervision of the Charge Nurse, Supervisor and Director, the nurse is responsible for implementing the nursing care plan and assimilation of the patient’s hospital record. 

·       The nurse is also responsible for implementing all physician orders, providing for the continuity and quality of nursing care for all patients, with continual evaluation of the patient’s condition, providing patient safety, comfort and privacy at all times. 

·       At times, assist the physicians in the procedure rooms with various tasks, conscious sedation, nerve blocks and utilizing sterile technique as deemed appropriate, and responding to emergency room as necessary.

 

Qualifications

Education:

·       Graduate of accredited school of professional nursing.

·       BSN preferred

Licensure/Certification:    

·       Current Texas RN License

·       BLS, must get ACLS and PALS within 30 days’ hire

Required Experience:

·       Minimum two (2) years’ experience as a RN in a critical care department or post anesthesia care unit setting

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

·       Demonstrates knowledge and skill level necessary to assess patient’s psychosocial, educational and physical needs, as well as the ability to address these needs in an age-appropriate manner in the pediatric, adolescent, adult and/ or geriatric patient population.

·       Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.

·       Good organization habits.

·       Ability to adapt to change quickly, strong knowledge vase relative to surgery procedures and management of the surgical patient.

·       Able to prioritize and organize workload to meet needs of patients and unit.

·       Understands principles of aseptic technique and the implementation

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

·       Performs direct patient care within scope of RN practice and according to hospital policies and procedures.

·       Plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care for patients based on individual, specific patient needs, and according to physician’s orders.

·       Responds quickly and appropriately to emergency situations.

·       Identifies educational needs, implements and evaluates learning and documents patient / family education.

·       Manages acute and chronic pain on all patients but especially post procedure or surgical patients to assist in alleviating suffering and improving healing.

·       Delivers medication based upon continual assessment, safety, and evaluation of patient response.

·       Responds to patients presenting to hospital with healthcare need and perform MSE follows policies and procedures for follow-up.

·       Cross train between the Pre-Op and PACU department, when requested.
