School-Based Registered Nurse (RN) - Kansas City, Missouri

A contract position is available for a Registered Nurse (RN) with recent pediatric experience to support school health services within the Kansas City area. This role offers an opportunity to provide essential nursing care to students across multiple school sites, ensuring a safe and healthy learning environment.

Location: Kansas City, Missouri (No travel required outside the district)

Role Overview: This position involves a float nurse assignment across various schools within the district, primarily managing general health room duties. After completing a two-week training period with an experienced nurse, the RN will independently manage health room operations at assigned schools, making autonomous clinical decisions as needed. Candidates must be comfortable working with a broad age range from Pre-K to 12th grade and adapt to fluctuating schedules, typically between 7:00 AM 2:30 PM or 9:00 AM 4:30 PM, depending on school level and daily needs. Flexibility for last-minute schedule changes is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide nursing care and assessments in a school health room setting
  • Manage health emergencies and communicate effectively with staff and parents
  • Document all care provided using electronic charting systems
  • Adapt to varied schedules and multiple school environments within the district
  • Collaborate with school staff to support student health and wellness

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid Missouri RN license without any disciplinary actions (verified via Nursys)
  • Recent pediatric nursing experience required; backgrounds in ICU, ER, or school nursing preferred
  • Ability to work independently and make clinical decisions confidently
  • Proficient with technology and electronic health record systems
  • Excellent communication and multitasking skills
  • Flexibility to accommodate dynamic scheduling and varied student populations
  • No new graduate applicants; must have hands-on nursing experience

Schedule and Hours:

  • 37.5 hours per week
  • Schedules provided weekly, with adjustments as needed for field trips and staffing changes

This role includes an initial prescreen phone interview followed by a virtual interview with the nursing coordinator.
