The Director of Clinical Services will be an inspiring leader and knowledgeable clinician with a deep commitment to sexual and reproductive freedom and social justice. The Director of Clinical Services will partner with a dynamic Clinical Support Team (CST) that provides frontline healthcare at our health centers across CT and RI, providing over 100,000 visits to patients annually.
In collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the Director of Clinical Services works closely with CST members and other Planned Parenthood of Southern New England (PPSNE) departments to ensure that our health centers provide person-centered, high-quality care that complies with Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), federal, state, and local requirements. The Director of Medical Services plans, writes policies for, and coordinates and evaluates health care services at PPSNE.
This position supervises the Lead Clinicians, the Orchard Lab Manager, and the Clinical and Research Coordinator. The Director of Clinical Services reports directly to the Chief Medical Officer and is a vital member of the Clinical Support Team.

Essential Functions
- In partnership with the CMO and the Medical Director, the Director of Clinical Services directs, coordinates, and evaluates clinical services provided to patients, in consultation with the Clinical Support Team, and other appropriate personnel. They ensure the delivery of an efficient, culturally responsive, and timely health care service that lives up to our commitment to provide the highest quality, accessible, patient-centered care that is outcomes- and impact-oriented with a focus on addressing health disparities particularly for Black communities. They focus on new project implementation and urgent issues that arise, and work closely with center managers and their direct reports on staff recruitment and hiring.
- Partners with regional directors and center managers to identify clinician staffing needs.
- Directs the hiring process for clinicians and supports in hiring other licensed clinical staff as needed. Sources candidates
- and conducts initial interviews and collaborates with regional directors and center managers to complete the hire.
- Facilitates training and development of clinicians including clinician conferences.
- Participates in clinician performance reviews and employee relations matters.
- Manages PPSNE’s National Health Service Corps participation to ensure this employment benefit is available to PPSNE’s clinicians.
- Adapts PPFA protocols for PPSNE in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer and Medical Director and ensures state standards and regulations are evident in PPSNE protocols.
- Partners with CST members to direct and provide oversight of new clinical service offerings.
- Chairs the Policies and Procedures Committee.
- Along with the Lead Clinicians, trains and supports clinicians in adapting to and adhering to changes in protocols.
- Maintains relationships with CT Department of Public Health and RI Department of Health in ensuring center licensing state regulations are met and updated as needed.
- Collaborates to create, implement, and follow up on the clinical policies and procedures, ensuring they are followed by health center staff and administrative supports. Collaborates to maintain the Policy Manual and affiliate Medical Standards and Guidelines.
- Partners with the Director of Clinical Quality Improvement to ensure timely, effective implementation of the CQI Program.
- Partners with the finance department to ensure correct fees for tests and services, implement new tests, medications, and equipment.
- Partners with clinical staff and center managers to support the patient experience and understands the connection between staff engagement and patient satisfaction.
- Partners with the Quality Assurance Manager and the QI & Lab Nurse Manager to ensure that health centers comply with local, state, federal, and PPFA regulations/requirements.
- Supervises and mentors the Lead Clinicians in their role of supporting clinicians in their region with onboarding, clinical support, training, and EHR support.
- Supervises the Orchard Lab Manager to ensure the Orchard Lab provides accurate, timely, and up-to-date laboratory testing services for PPSNE. Also supervises the Orchard Lab (CLIA PPSNE Lab) to ensure PPSNE meets all CT and RI laboratory regulations.
- Manages the Clinical and Research Coordinator, ensuring smooth and timely administrative support for the CST team.
- Partners with BetterHealth, Clinical Health Network (CHN), and other appropriate external team members to optimize the EHR to meet PPFA and other requirements and allow for accurate, timely charting and coding.
- Acts as liaison with some state and local agencies, reference laboratories, and some vendors.
- Works with CST members and outside partners to implement new and changing regulatory requirements. Manages regulatory problems as they arise.
- As part of clinical leadership, provides clinical consultation and support (by phone, Teams, or other methods) to clinical team members for the management of urgent and ongoing clinical issues.
- Continues active clinical practice as a licensed clinician, delivering patient care in centers 1 day per week, on average.
- Works and collaborates with all the members of the Clinical Services Team (CST) to support the services provided at PPSNE.
- Completes all responsibilities according to established protocols, policies and standard practices in the areas of customer service, quality assurance and regulatory compliance programs such as HIPAA (Health Information Portability & Accountability Act), OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Act), and CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Administration)
- Demonstrates flexibility and teamwork; understands the interaction between this position and others with whom the position works directly and indirectly.
- Oversees student clinical preceptor arrangements with colleges/universities, health centers and volunteer services. Partners with the Student and Volunteer Coordinator to ensure all PPFA and legal requirements are met.
- Performs special projects including but not limited to medical aspects of emergency preparedness and response.
- Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.

- Proficient with Microsoft Office, EHR and skilled with use and application of information technology.
- Graduation from a recognized Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant or Nurse Midwife training program or Medical School with a concentration in adult, family practice, or women’s health.
- Appropriate professional certification (ANCC, NCC, ACNM, NCCPA or MD)
- Current state licensure in CT and RI as a Nurse Practitioner, Physician's Assistant or Medical Doctor required.
- CPR certification.
- Minimum of 5 years of reproductive health experience in direct patient care.
- Minimum of 3 years of management experience preferred.
- Clinical teaching experience preferred.

$139,777 - $169,721 a year
Salary Range; Min $89,833 Mid $139,777 Max $169,721 and is based on full years of experience.
