Job Duties
Independently provides professional nursing care to patients in clinics, mobile unit, and community-based settings. Performs nursing assessments, may perform lab tests, take measurements, develop and implement care plans, including the administration of medication and case management, and supports the harm reduction program by assisting current harm reduction efforts and supporting the implementation of new opioid abatement strategies. Participates in public health emergencies and community health assessments. In addition, coordinates mobile unit operations, partnerships, and program administration.
Actions performed at this level require licensure as a RN by state code. May supervise support staff.
This is a grant funded position for this fiscal year with the potential for the next 4 years
Minimum Qualifications
• Communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, including documentation using the health department’s accepted formats.
• Clinical & Technical Skills: Proficient in physical examination, health assessment, interviewing and counseling techniques, and performing technical nursing procedures.
• Interpersonal & Teamwork: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals, families, and the public; function independently and as part of a team; adapt to change.
• Organizational & Problem-Solving: Skilled in prioritizing and organizing work, analyzing problems, and implementing solutions.
• Knowledge Base: Understanding of public health concepts, principles of public health nursing, epidemiology, immunizations, nursing science, medical terminology, case management, quality assurance, teaching principles, decision-making, accurate record keeping, and socio-economic factors affecting client needs.
• Travel & Schedule: Willingness to travel; some weekend and/or evening hours may be required.
• Certifications & Licenses: Must hold current Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR certification and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Organizational Objective:
This position will be measured through the following Opioid Abatement metrics
· Individuals that have participated in prevention education programing
· Efforts directed towards pregnant/nursing woman with substance use disorders
· Efforts directed towards adults with substance use disorders who are not incarcerated or pregnant/nursing
· Other harm reduction efforts
Additional Considerations
· Additional study in health promotion/or public health is preferred
· BSN preferred
· Previous program management experience
· Experience in a public health setting or one related to disease prevention and health promotion
· Experience in the field of harm reduction, mental health, and substance use disorders
· Experience with PrEP and viral Hepatitis C infections
· Bilingual in English and Spanish
