The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant Neuro Critical Care provides advanced health care to individuals, families or groups as an advanced or expert clinician. Performs assessment of individual health, analyzes data to determine medical and nursing care needed, plans a treatment strategy to meet identified needs, evaluates responses to nursing and medical interventions.

GENERAL DUTIES

Assessment: Assesses the complex acute, critical and chronically ill patients for urgent and emergent conditions. Uses relevant data to evaluate for any physiologic instability and utilizes data to formulate plan of care.

Clinical Interventions: Performs therapeutic interventions to stabilize acute and critical health problems. Specific interventions are listed in the Scope of Practice and approved as a part of the credentialing/privileging process. Analyzes the indications, contradictions, risk of complications and cost-benefits of therapeutic interventions.

Plan of Care: Manages the plan of care through evaluation, modification and documentation according to the patient's response to therapy. Manages changes in condition with a focus on optimizing the patient outcomes. Incorporates health promotion, health protection and injury prevention measures into the plan of care within the context of the complex acute, critical and chronic illness. Facilitates the patients transition between and within health care settings.

Education: Serves as an educational resource to the patient/family, nursing staff and provider team. Acts as a consultant to multidisciplinary health care team members.

Professional Development: Participates in scholarly activities including research and education. Participates in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate educational offerings. Acts as a preceptor and mentor to support the development of nurses, APPs, students and other health care providers.

Patient Safety and Quality: Demonstrates a commitment to patient safety by speaking up about safety issues and changing practice to enhance safety. Demonstrates shared accountability for safe practice. Shares errors or potential errors through system reporting mechanisms.

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree from an approved Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program - required.

Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant Neurosurgery Clinic University Medical Center New Orleans Full-time Day Shift The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant, Outpatient is responsible for providing medical care and treatment to patients. Performs physical examinations and preventative health measures within the prescribed guidelines and instructions of the physician. Plans a treatment strategy to meet identified needs, evaluates responses to nursing and medical interventions. Neurosurgery Clinic combination of both outpatient and inpatient care working with Dr. Young Lee and other Neurosurgery Attendings at UMCNO Clinical practice will include the full scope of an APP’s practice: bedside clinical care, documentation, procedures, professional billing, etc GENERAL DUTIES Patient Care: Provides quality care to patients. Promptly responds to patient calls and messages and ensures same day completion of calls and messages. Maintains accurate patient and business records including the completion of encounters. Observes patients for signs and symptoms of abuse/neglect and report immediately in accordance with policy. Recognizes emergencies and responds appropriately in adherence to organizational policy and procedure. Coordinates plans of care, periodically review these plans and implement methods to keep the quality of care under constant surveillance. Compliance: Stays abreast of all other responsibilities required as set forth in any federal and state laws, statutes, or regulations as enacted or as may be enacted or amended. Maintains the confidentiality of all patient information as established by the facility’s HIPAA policies and procedures. Maintains the required continuing education hours to assure continued competence. Professionalism and Support: Demonstrates professional ownership and commitment to the principles and core values of guest relations. Demonstrate leadership of the clinical team. Communicates with clinic leadership, escalate issues and present solutions. SAFETY AND INFECTION CONTROL STANDARDS: Assists with compliance to safety, environmental, infection control, quality improvement and other regulatory standards.Implements standard and transmission-based precautions, as outlined in policies. Performs hand hygiene, as outlined in relevant policy. Ensures patient safety during clinic visits, in accordance with appropriate policy. Maintains a clean clinic working environment. Reports any safety hazards or violations in patient or clinic environment to clinic manager or designee. Collaboration: Provide input in hiring, disciplinary action and termination decisions of clinical personnel. Attends all daily huddles, staff meetings and provider meetings. Participates in on-going performance improvement activities and initiatives. EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS Master's Degree from an approved NP Program required or Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Program (MS-PAS). LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association Registered Nursing License (RN) from the Louisiana State Board of Nursing Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) from the Louisiana State Board of Nursing or Current PA License in the State of Louisiana from the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners PA (Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)) Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association SKILLS AND ABILITIES Medical skills.
