OrthoIndy Hospital West, located in Brownsburg, Indiana, provides outpatient care for patients that includes an urgent care, clinic, imaging and physical therapy. OI West also performs outpatient procedures and surgeries in our two operating rooms.
General Statement of Duties:
The Registered Nurse Team Lead Surgery coordinates the activities of nursing and non-nursing personnel in the provision of nursing care and services in the operating room, as well as coordinating and monitoring the daily surgery schedule. The Team Lead maintains the staffing schedule and coordinates time off requests, as well as gathering information for Quality Assurance indicators and other statistics. The Team Lead also provides nursing care and services in the operating room including assisting the physician and scrub staff during surgical procedures when needed.
Essential Duties:
- Ensures the daily function of the department runs smoothly. Documents patient care according to policy. Collaborates with all members of the healthcare unit.
- Maintains the staffing schedule and coordinates time off requests.
- Completes and adjusts patient assignments so that care is delivered timely. Monitors workflow and adjusts assignments to assure optimum workflow. Completes workflow schedules. Ensures all necessary breaks and shifts are covered.
- Provides information on staff performance, disciplinary concerns, or other development areas to department management as needed.
- Participates in performance improvement and patient service activities. Retrieves data and prepared report for Quality Assurance and Risk Management as needed.
- Assists the management team in the implementation of ongoing service and patient care programs. Assists in monitoring and maintaining unit compliance with regulatory policies and personnel safety. Participates in planning unit goals and communicates goals to staff.
- Prepares, operates and monitors the use of various systems, equipment, and instrumentation required for the care of patients.
- Performs sponge, needle, and sharp counts according to policy and procedure. Correctly collects and accurately labels specimens. Reviews and verifies patient information, identification, and chart forms.
- Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the health care team, to ensure quality of care.
- Prepares setup, materials, medications, and equipment for cases as needed and assists surgeons in all types of procedures as required. Preps the surgical site using aseptic technique. Maintains operating room and equipment in a functional manner.
Requirements:
- Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred from a nationally accredited nursing program
- 2-4 years of related Registered Nurse experience required; 4-6 years of experience preferred
- Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Indiana required
- BLS, ACLS certification required
