Job Summary: The RN Clinical Instructor PT provides organizational and departmental instruction to students, staff, and other faculty. This position oversees students, staff and faculty through direct and indirect involvement with student orientation, competency management, role transition, and continuing education to ensure students have opportunities to acquire the knowledge and practice the skills identified in course programs. This includes using varied and appropriate teaching methods in the classroom, skills lab, and bedside settings as well as performing administrative work to support all clinical experience programs within the Network.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:
- Provides clinical instruction and administrative oversight to at JPS Health Network, adhering to the policies of the Network, clinical setting, and the partner College or University, if applicable.
- Discusses with students any concerns and/or problems directly or indirectly related to the learning experience.
- Assists students to develop an understanding of values, attitudes, and ideals appropriate to the Nursing profession.
- Establishes and maintains relationships with clinical units, academic partners, and other key stakeholders.
- Participates in JPS department meetings, partner College or University faculty meetings (both formally and informally) with didactic and clinical faculty members, as assigned.
- Develops clinical lesson plans and provides clinical, classroom and skills lab instruction.
- Supervises student groups in clinical areas (maintains presence in the facility during entire student clinical time, unless assigned a preceptor).
- Leads discussions and engages students, staff, and faculty in demonstrating learning and clinical skills are mastered.
- Maintains clinical standards and course expectations throughout each course or program.
- Evaluates student performance, as assigned. Meets with students regularly to discuss progress and performance.
- Works effectively as part of the overall faculty team demonstrating positive interpersonal relations; collaborates with other faculty members to meet student needs; participates in other program committees; and responds to requests from Clinical Experience leadership.
- Identifies and acquires resources required for quality program design and delivery; revises education programs as needed.
- Selects the most appropriate method to accommodate learning styles, cultural diversity, education level, and the learning environment.
- Maintains faculty expectations as required by JPS Health Network, partner College or University, as assigned, and the Texas Board of Nursing.
