Pre-Admission Testing
The Pre-Admission Nurse performs a verbal assessment with the patient prior to admission via a phone interview as well as collects the patient’s history from previous medical records.
Responsibilities
Practice appropriate telephone and patient triage skills
Perform verbal assessment with patient prior to admission- in person or via telephone, communicating information to appropriate team members
Ensure pre-operative care requirements of patients are accomplished through use of the nursing process including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation
Assess pertinent information, plan, implement and document interventions and evaluate results
Respond to telephone inquiries regarding expressed needs of the caller
Perform outbound follow-up calls as requested
Provide general health information
Thoroughly document all call encounters utilizing manual and/or on-line information systems at the time of the call
Alert anesthesia of results of labs, physical assessment , or special needs of individual with medical problems – prior to date of surgery
Answer inquires in a timely and helpful manner
Communicate arrival time and NPO instructions as prescribed

Requirements
- Must be a Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut.
- Must possess advanced computer skills
- Maintains an awareness of changing perianesthesia practice issues
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to interact with patients and family with tact and confidentiality.
- Ability to work well as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
- Responsible and accountable for all patient care.
- Ability to provide care and intervention to all patients to ensure positive outcomes
- Ability to work in a time working environment including exposure all patient elements i.e. blood borne pathogens, physical requirement, lifting and pulling patients, pushing stretchers standing and walking.
- May be exposed to environmental hazards such as anesthesia gases or elements.
- Ability to approach clinical responsibilities for patients regarding growth and developmental issues related to the specific age groups of the population served.
- Graduate of accredited RN program
- Must have basic computer skills and ability to access internet and other programs applicable to Waterbury Hospital procedures.
- Perform automated functions that fall within job responsibility.
