Description

Performs a variety of laboratory tests, many of which involve numerous steps and techniques, and require use of professional judgment. Tests are performed in Blood Bank, Coagulation, Hematology, Urinalysis, Microbiology, and Chemistry. Professional application of the theories and techniques of clinical laboratory science (including evaluation of quality control data) are used to produce reliable test results which aid the clinician in diagnosis and treatment. Has full access to patient health information. May have access to medication storage areas (excluding controlled substances) as related to job responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Medical Technologist: Must have at least sixty semester hours of college with training in a certified Medical Technology training program. Must be currently registered or eligible by ASCP or AMT.
  • Medical Laboratory Technician: Must have an associate’s degree as a Medical Laboratory Technician and be registered or eligible by ASCP or AMT.
  • Must possess full range of body motion to pass basic FIT test for position to include walking, kneeling, standing, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, reaching and sitting for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
