Job Summary
The ED Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellowship is designed to provide post-graduate, on the job training to prepare the APP fellows for successful practice in Pediatric Emergency Medicine. Exposed to a variety of clinical rotations, APP fellows will refine critical thinking, diagnostic, and clinical skills necessary for managing complex medical situations and for providing safe, efficient and effective care to pediatric patients in the emergency department. The APP fellowship provides an opportunity for the licensed APP to receive twelve (12) months of intensive clinical training that uses a multidisciplinary approach to prepare clinicians to step into the challenging and fast paced role of an Emergency Medicine Advanced Practice Provider. Grounded in rigorous didactic curriculum, this intensive training program will offer hands on structured clinical rotations in hospital medicine and designated specialties. The ED APP Fellow works under the direct guidance of APP preceptors and attending physicians. Reports to the ED APP Manager.
Job Specific Duties
- Successfully completes the required clinical rotations as per the program curricular requirements. Maintains safe & clean environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Conducts comprehensive assessments of patient's health status by taking health histories and examinations.
- Attends all didactic lectures and educational opportunities scheduled for APP fellow.
- Orders and interprets appropriate laboratory tests and diagnostic tests in collaborative relationship with the supervising physician or APP preceptor.
- Performs procedures as demonstrated through competency and identified in delineation of privileges under the guidance of her APP preceptor.
- Develops organizational skills to manage a patient caseload.
- Completes clinical documentation accurately and in a timely manner. Documents in the EMR all care provided and/or procedures performed for which the APP Fellow is responsible.
- Collaborates and consults with physicians and other health care professionals as appropriate.
- Develops effective communication and presentation skills with the interdisciplinary team.
- Develops a deep and broad knowledge base of the common pediatric disease processes for which pediatric patients are seen in the emergency department.
- Orders/prescribes medications, therapies, interventions, and procedures according to clinical privileges and under the guidance of APP preceptor.
- Teaches others by preparing journal club or presentations as assigned.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Identifies individual professional development needs and work with APP preceptors to create opportunities for learning and practice.
- Participates in performance improvement activities, quality of care initiatives, and research projects.
Qualifications
Minimum Job Requirements
- Master's degree in nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)
- Valid Florida APRN License - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- Acute Care Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- American Heart Association BLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- American Heart Association PALS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- Level II Background Check - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- Successful completion of Credentialing by NCHS Medical Administration
