Summary:
- The Nurse Manager of the Center for Transfusion Free Medicine assumes accountability for the operation of the CTFM program and the Cellular Therapy and Transplant program (CTT). This includes the provision of leadership to improve patient care of CTFM and CTT patients, maintain program growth, enhance professional development and achieve program goals. This position reports to the Associate Director of the Cancer Program, who reports to the Administrative Director of the Cancer Program at Pennsylvania Hospital. They manage staff of non-nurse program coordinators who work directly with patients enrolled in the CTFM program and a department secretary. They also manage the RN coordinators of the CTT program. They also manage the Anemia Clinic in collaboration with the Medical Director of the CTFM program, ensuring timely access and disease management for both pre-operative patients seeking hemoglobin optimization prior to surgery or delivery as well as other patients with anemia. They work collaboratively with Pennsylvania Hospital leaders and staff to ensure they are trained in Transfusion Free Medicine principles and providers and staff new to PAH are onboarded and trained. They work collaboratively with the CTT program medical director and program leaders to support patients seeking Transfusion Free options in cell therapy and transplant, including working with the Jehovah's Witness community and leadership to promote the PAH CTT program, ensuring quality and safety of the CTT program.
Responsibilities:
- Change Management: Proactively develops change management strategy for major organizational activities and events Implements change management strategy within Nursing and UPHS in alignment with UPHS objectives. Identifies and facilitates agreement of major messages which are consistent regardless of audience, credible and reflects UPHS’ core values Communication plans are effectively implemented Ensure appropriate follow-up of major issues Manage routine and crisis communications throughout the entity/community as they arise Demonstrates recognition of the systemic impact of employee communication and/or policy changes and solicits proactive feedback prior to implementation. Evaluates effectiveness of change and implementation plans.
- Nursing Leadership: Provides vision and leadership for Nursing Practice Model. Participates in the selection, career development and annual performance review of their staff and peers as requested. In cooperation with interdisciplinary colleagues, assists in improving system-wide capability by capturing and sharing best practices across the Entity. Collaborates with other Nurse Managers and leaders in rapid and effective implementation of these best practices in ways appropriate to each health delivery setting. In collaboration with physician and administration proactively promotes efforts to improve cost effective quality patient care.
- Community: Represents the interests of Pennsylvania Hospital in the served community. Works closely with the Jehovah’s Witness community leadership, including the local HLS and the national Watchtower leadership to identify patient needs, program needs and clear communication between organizations. Supports clinical nurses participation in community outreach projects such health education and screening. Supports requests for clinical experiences for area Schools of Nursing.
- Patient Flow: Promotes and helps maintain efficient patient flow initiatives through facilitation of Care Coordination activities, including assisting with patient transfers to PAH for CTFM enrollment and coordination of out of state patients for Transfusion Free CTT program. Collaborates with APNs, physicians and health care team members to facilitate strong interdisciplinary communication regarding patient flow when enrolled in the CTFM.
- Program Growth: Responsible for program development and growth of the CTFM, including marketing of the program, maintaining patient and provider education about the CTFM, developing and promoting patient educational programs including annual symposium, leading the PAH Patient Blood Management committee in collaboration with physician leads, ensuring collaboration with Jehovah Witness leadership to maintain program growth.
- Financial Management: Develop understanding of Revenue & Reimbursement in HealthCare Develop budget for individual AU/Dept based on assumptions and decisions made by UPHS and Dept Leaders Budget management for AU/Dept Review Financial Reports distributed via eBroadcast monthly or monthly financial tool to ensure all activity within an AU is expensed in the month. Provide budget variance explanations to Finance/Division Business Manager and UPHS management monthly Analyze and manage data as tool to manage expenses Successfully negotiates resourcing needs across boundaries with partners as appropriate
Credentials:
- State of PA RN License
Education or Equivalent Experience:
- Bachelor of Science Nursing (Required) and 5+ years progressive nursing experience with demonstrated leadership and management skills.
- Master of Science Nursing (Required) (If internal, must be enrolled and complete Master's program within 2 years.)
