JOB FUNCTION
Treats students for medical issues, helps prevent physical issues and disease, and coordinates routine health assessments.
This position directly reports to the school principal and functionally reports to the other school administrators and district directors. This position coordinates with the other teachers, instructional coaches, school psychologists, and school social workers along with other support staff, students, guardians, and the community.
TERM
Shall work the 10-month school calendar as defined by the Board of Education and Collective Bargaining Agreement. May work up to the equivalent of 10 total additional days in May, June, or August which shall be paid at the per diem rate of pay and determined in collaboration with Administration.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Responsible for professional, medical treatment of students.
- Responsible for early detection of physical problems and health evaluations.
- Responsible for disease prevention.
- Assists in promoting programs on health-education and immunization.
- Maintains clinical records.
- Coordinates vision, hearing, and orthopedic screening and health assessments.
- Provides emergency aid to students and school staff.
- Assists teachers in instructing students in health and nutrition education.
- Builds and maintains positive rapport and communication with students and guardians.
- Monitors halls and study periods with other faculty and staff.
- Establishes and implements nurses office management structure and rules that ensure the physical and mental safety of all students; ensures safety and security standards for children, staff, and visitors of the school; supervises all students throughout school grounds and on educational trips as necessary.
- Maintains required paperwork for individual student files, attendance and incident reports, and other necessary records.
- Maintains knowledge of research, developments, and best practices in nursing.
- Recognizes and supports diversity and equity in support of school and district initiatives.
- Maintains an educational philosophy and school climate which encourages a cooperative and participant attitude on the part of all staff and students; celebrates the achievements and successes of students.
- Participates in faculty meetings, educational conferences, in-service opportunities, workshops, and other training seminars as required.
- Attends work as scheduled and arrives in a timely manner unless a qualified absence has been approved as described in the collective bargaining agreement.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Master's degree in related subject area and registered nurse (RN) certificate are required. Appropriate state license or certification; School Nurse Endorsement; and previous nursing experience with school-aged children are highly preferred. Driver's license required for student transport is highly desirable.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Prolonged periods of standing, reaching, and bending. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
