Bon Secours Surgery Center at Harbour View is seeking a PRN Certified Surgical Technologist. We are a busy multispecialty surgery center serving Northern Suffolk and an affiliate of United Surgical Partners International (USPI). USPI’s mission is to care for each patient and their family as if they were our own. Each patient, each family, each and every time.

The Certified Surgical Technologist is responsible for all departmental functions in support of USPI’s mission, vision, and facility goals. This position establishes effective working relationships with all constituencies including patients, physicians, employees, volunteers and vendors. The Certified Surgical Technologist scrubs for surgical procedures and demonstrates competence while working with leadership in meeting facility safety, quality, customer service, and financial goals.

Required Skills:
  • Education: High school graduate or equivalent
  • Licensure: Completion of an appropriate surgical technology program
  • Experience: Previous experience in an ambulatory surgical center is strongly preferred
  • Certifications: BLS required
  • Good command of the English language, both verbal and written
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn

Approximately three to six months of related experience, preferred, in order to learn sterile techniques, become familiar with anesthesia equipment and cleaning procedures, and learn inventory techniques. Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with the surgical team and maintain effective contacts with physicians and hospital employees. Familiarity and manual dexterity required with all basic surgical instruments, supplies, equipment and procedures. Basic analytical skills necessary to develop solutions to problems concerning technical needs of surgery. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when conducting procedures and operating special computer software. BLS-HCP Certification required and/or must be obtained within 90 days of hire. WORKING CONDITIONS Surgical areas work environment with frequent exposure to unpleasant odors from disinfectant solutions/chemicals. Possible exposure to infectious agents when handling instruments or hazardous materials. Potential for personal harm or injury is reduced when proper safety and health precautions are followed. Surgical Tech Qualifications: High School graduate or equivalent required. Graduate of a School of Surgical Technology Certification as a Surgical Tech preferred. Effectively communicates, both orally and written. AHA BLS healthcare required within 30 days of hire, if not currently certified.
