Essential Functions:

  • Prepares the patient for scheduled procedures to assist in patient assessment. 

  • Monitors medical condition of patients and reports changes to the appropriate personnel.

  • Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to assure optimal patient care. 

  • Assists physicians with examinations, procedures related to direct patient care. 

  • Has knowledge of all equipment, procedures and can instruct and precept personnel.

  • Writes initial nursing histories, assesses patient conditions and develops individual care plans for patients in the OR.

  • Demonstrates sensitivity to patients’ comfort and privacy and maintains a safe, therapeutic and comfortable environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards.

  • Orients, trains and instructs assigned personnel. 

  • Cooperates with other personnel to achieve departmental objectives and maintain good employee objectives.

  • Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording of patient medical records maintaining all required reports, records and statistics.

  • Have knowledge of ADRN standards and practices.

  • Performs other miscellaneous and related duties as assigned. 

Physical Requirements:

Physical requirements are primarily related to the essential functions of any job. In order to perform the essential functions of this position, you must be able to stand for periods up to twelve hours, walk, sit, use hands, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, talk, hear and smell.

Must be able to lift or exert energy up to 50 pounds 100% of the time.  Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen move up/down or left/right), depth vision (three dimensional vision, ability to judge distances) and the ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into focus) is required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from accredited school of nursing. Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. Current RN license in the state of South Carolina. Experience in scrubbing and circulating in the operating room is preferred. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required. ACLS certification is required.

Physical Requirements:

1. Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
2. Proficiency in manual dexterity and fine motor skills for tasks such as taking patient vitals, administering injections, or conducting physical exams.
3. Capacity to lift and move patients or medical equipment as needed.

We are the referral center for all major pediatric cardiac surgery in South Carolina. Average Daily Census on the unit is 28, with a blend of cardiac surgical and medical diagnoses. The Heart Center cares for patients with congenital and acute heart disease of any age based on care needs. Common procedures associated with this unit's care include cardiac surgery, Ventricular Assist Devices, Heart Transplant, cardiac catheterization, and all medical diagnoses associated with cardiac care for the children in South Carolina. In addition to ventilatory and cardiac support, the unit provides ECMO/CRRT and additional complex supportive therapies. Pediatric palliative care is available as needed. The staffing mix includes Registered Nurses, Patient Care Technicians, and Unit Secretaries with ancillary supportive services such as Respiratory Therapy, Pediatric Dietitians, and Pediatric Pharmacist available as needed. All beds are monitored beds. Minimum Training and Education : Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred.
