Our IU Health North Operating Room (OR) supports both adult and pediatric patients, offering a high‑variety surgical experience. From general surgery, ortho (including joints and spine), urology, ENT, breast reductions, gynecology, robotics, and vascular—to healthy pediatric cases supported in partnership with Riley anesthesiologists, no two days look the same.

You’ll care for patients undergoing procedures such as bowel resections, hernia repairs, gastric bypass, mastectomies, reconstructions, joint replacements, spine surgeries, tonsils, ear tubes, appendectomies, and more, everything except neuro and cardiac.

Join our highly collaborative surgical team where nurses work closely with surgeons, anesthesia staff, CSTs, and OR assistants to provide exceptional care across a wide range of specialties. Nurses care for one patient at a time, allowing for focused, high‑quality care without additional family‑management pressures during procedures. Team members often work together for full shifts, fostering strong relationships and a supportive culture that keeps many staff returning.

Shifts:

Full-time DAY shift, 6:30A-7P; 10- or 12-hour shifts with a 6:30A start
Part-time DAY shift, 6:30A start
Full-time NIGHT shift, 6:30P-7A
SWO DAY shift, Saturday and Sunday 6:30A to 7P OR can be Full-time and work one weekday
On call requirements are weeknights from 6:30P to 6:30A and weekend days 6:30A – 6:30P and weekend nights 6:30P to 6:30A

Qualifications

Requires Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Education: The Registered Nurse (RN) must have graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
- Exceptions: Candidates who have not graduated from a nationally accredited program may be considered if they possess more than two years of acute care experience. Such exceptions are subject to review and approval by the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).
Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
Other Advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.

While in a scrub role, assist the surgical team by donning sterile masks, gloves and gowns as well as aid the surgeon by passing instruments during the procedure. Apply sterile techniques in handling medical instruments and equipment pre-, during, and post-surgery. Use and troubleshoot medical equipment safely and effectively to carry out planned nursing interventions, assist staff and obtain equipment needed. Post procedure, clear tools, prepare the patient for transport to recovery, and provide report to the recovery RN. Assist with the ordering, maintenance, and safe storage of surgical equipment and supplies. Perform other duties inside the surgical room that ensure safe and effective care. Job Summary The Medical Oncology Office Registered Nurse (RN) prepares and assists physicians or advance practice providers in the examination and treatment of patients in the medical office. The Registered Nurse performs patient assessment and triage, arranges diagnostic testing and hospital admissions, administers patient medication and performs diagnostic testing in the medical office setting. The Registered Nurse also works as part of the team in maintaining exam rooms and supplies and providing exceptional customer service. Job Responsibilities Prepare patients for physician examination. This includes gathering patient assessment information relating to the patient's learning and education ability, patient education and patient family education, measuring and recording vital signs, and accurately documenting the information in a timely manner in patient charts. Perform telephone triage, communicate and adjudicate physician/provider orders. Provide legible and signature authenticated documentation, as needed, of all actions taken, accurately and timely, to the patient's medical record. Perform phlebotomy, administer injections, immunizations and other special procedures demonstrating skills in the principles of infection prevention, reduction and controls appropriate for the medical setting. Provide follow-up care for patients that includes, but is not limited to: arranging diagnostic testing, specialist appointments, hospital admissions, etc. Perform Quality Assurance functions and procedures necessary to meet and maintain regulatory requirements.
