Job Summary

Summary
Responsible for assisting surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals in various surgical procedures and playing a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and safe operation of the operating room.

Essential Functions
-Prepare the operating room for surgical procedures.

-Set up sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment required for the surgery.

-Transport patients to the operating room, help with positioning on the surgical table, and ensure their safety and comfort during the procedure.

-Pass instruments, supplies, and equipment to the surgical team during procedures.

-Follow proper sterilization techniques to ensure the cleanliness and sterility of surgical instruments and supplies.

-Maintain accurate and complete documentation of surgical procedures, including counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments used.

-Collaborate effectively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and other members of the surgical team.

-Assist in preparing the surgical site by applying sterile drapes and solutions.

-Secure and manage surgical drains and catheters as directed by the surgeon.

Develops and demonstrates initiative in order to inquire and explore new surgical procedures and subject relating to the operating room and to the surgical patient. Differentiates sterilization methods for special equipment and instruments necessary for specific surgical procedures. Demonstrates ability to retract, suction, irrigate, apply pressure and assist in homeostasis by use of assorted sponges in the surgical field under the direction of the surgeon. Job Summary and Qualifications Provides technical assistance to physician/registered nurse during surgical procedures. The surgical technologist functions in the role of Certified Surgical Technologist First Assistant after meeting credentialing criteria and carries out functions that will assist the surgeon in performing a safe operation with optimal results for the patient.
