- Discusses and makes plans for the post-op discharge to include but not limited to transportation, responsible adult for post op care.
- Keeps patient and family informed of surgical procedure specifics including but not limited to schedule, length of procedure, communication with family members, pain control, etc.
- Minimizes the potential for injury to the patient related to a surgical procedure.
- Obtains patient history, surgical and anesthesia consent as required.
- Provides appropriate procedural explanation, pre, intra and post procedure.
- Identifies normal physiologic changes after childbirth.
- Identifies post partum complications based on assessment.
- Differentiates between normal and abnormal signs and symptoms of the post partum patient.
- Initiates comprehensive interventions to prevent further complications.
- Designs individualized plan of care based on the patient's needs.
- Collaborates with other healthcare teams based on the patient's needs.
- Assists patients of fetal demise with the grieving process by listening, crying, using touch, acknowledging the loss and encouraging patients and families to be patient with themselves.
