Director of Nursing (DON) – Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF)
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Director of Nursing (DON) to lead clinical operations and nursing services in our Skilled Nursing Facility. The DON is responsible for ensuring high-quality resident care, regulatory compliance, staff development, and strong clinical outcomes.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on clinical leader with a strong understanding of SNF regulations, survey readiness, staff management, and quality improvement.
Director of Nursing (DON) Key Responsibilities

Provide leadership and oversight of all nursing services and clinical operations

Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations, including survey readiness and plan of correction support

Drive high standards for resident care, safety, infection prevention, and customer service

Develop and manage staffing plans, scheduling, and nurse competency programs

Support recruitment, onboarding, coaching, and performance management for nursing staff

Maintain strong collaboration with the Administrator, Medical Director, therapy, and interdisciplinary teams

Monitor and improve clinical outcomes, including falls, wounds, hospital readmissions, and infection control
-
Ensure accurate documentation and coordination of resident assessments and care planning
-
Oversee medication management practices and nursing workflow efficiencies

Lead audits and quality assurance initiatives (QAPI) to support continuous improvement

Serve as a clinical resource and ensure effective communication with residents and families
Director of Nursing (DON) Qualifications
Required:

Active RN license (in good standing)

Minimum 3–5 years of SNF nursing leadership experience (ADON/DON preferred)

Strong knowledge of SNF regulations, survey process, and quality measures

Proven experience managing clinical teams and driving performance outcomes

Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills
Preferred:

Prior DON experience in a Skilled Nursing Facility

Experience with infection control programs, QAPI, and survey preparation

Familiarity with MDS processes and interdisciplinary care planning
