Summary
Staff Development Coordinator/ Infection Preventionist (SDC-IP) is a leader responsible for developing, implementing, auditing, educating and maintaining effective training programs & infection control programs for all new and existing healthcare staff, consistent with their roles. They focus on process improvement to support the reduction of healthcare acquired infections, by providing guidance and leadership for the development and implementation of building wide infection prevention and control plan, educates other practitioners and clinical staff on the system-based causes for infections, consults with management and staff, develops and implements evidence-based programs that support effective infection prevention and control strategies.

Staff Development Coordinator (SDC)
Work with DNS on education initiatives & new systems for infection control projects and staff development.
Keep up to date on the best new practices and safety products to improve existing training practices and safeguards for staff and residents.
Welcome new hires by holding orientation sessions to ensure understanding of infection control policies and procedures.
Coordinates & participates in monthly meetings for CNAs, CMAs, and LNs.
Work with resident care managers (RCMs) and DNS to ensure infection care plans are tailored to address the residents’ specific needs.
Participate in Safety and Quality assurance committees with staff and management team.
Help develop the emergency preparedness plan by identifying hazards and providing necessary infection control pieces to the facility risk assessment.
Develop programs to educate staff on regulatory requirements identified during risk assessment. Develop educational calendars in accordance with the plan.
Continuously evaluate, educate, improve and maintain infection control/ prevention policies, procedures, and practices to maintain compliance.
Lead staff on infection control and safety protocols during public health crisis and outbreaks. Submit reports to management and regulatory agencies.
Investigate outbreaks to identify potential causes to implement preventative measures.
Encourage and perform ongoing education and support for staff.
Perform routine audits to ensure infection protocols are being followed to decrease risk of infection in the facility.
Regularly monitor, track, trend, record and report staff and resident infections.
Track, manage and keep records of immunizations of residents and staff.
Keep records of all in-services, training sessions, competencies, audits,
Conduct and document individual education/counseling when needed for non-adherence of policies, procedures, and/or facility practices.
Work and communication with geriatric population which may include residents with cognitive impairments or behaviors.
Assessing and providing care to residents when needed.
Participate in On-Call rotation.
Other duties as assigned.
Working Environment & Physical Demands
Working Environment: Works in a well-lit and well-ventilated facility. May be exposed to contagious diseases and mental stress. Must tolerate frequent interruptions. May be exposed to confused, belligerent or physically aggressive residents. May be exposed to a variety of cleaning agents and their fumes. May be exposed to bodily fluids.
Physical Demands:
Sits, stands and walks for extended periods of time. Manual dexterity, good vision and hearing required to perform normal clerical tasks.
Current unencumbered Oregon State LPN license.
2 years’ nursing experience required (preferably in skilled nursing setting).
Prior Infection Prevention experience is preferred.
Infection Prevention education required (must be obtained within first 30 days).
Current knowledge of nursing & infection control practices in a skilled nursing setting.
