Responsibilities

Work Schedule:Monday - Friday, 9 hours between 7:00am and 4:00pm, including a one hour lunch

 

Core Duties:

• Provide a full range of outcome-based nurse practitioner services in accordance with privileges granted by the MTF (e.g., supervise and provide general screening and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute and chronic conditions involving any and all organ systems; provide immunizations; diagnose, treat, and counsel patients as indicated).• Technically direct and teach other staff, provide evidenced-based educational lectures and participate in in-service training to staff members. • Diagnose and treat patients with common acute conditions, chronic illnesses, or minor trauma within accepted protocols, clinical practice guidelines, Nurse Practice Acts, and/or in consultation with a physician.• Promote preventive care and health maintenance including annual physicals, positive health behaviors and self-care through both formal and individual education and counseling.• Communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization. • Recognize conditions that require isolation and ensure universal precautions are used in all patient encounters.• Attend staff meetings to provide case discussion, continuing education, and continuous quality improvement and safety.

• Provider will be required to see a minimum of 100 bookable appointments per week, in accordance with the template manager, and cannot deviate without adequate justification. Per AFI 44-171, para 2.6.4.2 the Group Practice Manager and the Access to Care Function have local waiver authority for increasing or decreasing appointments per week based on provider contract limitations, local workload issues, experience/clinical capability of providers, inpatient/currency requirements, mission essential function.

• The nurse practitioner may become the Primary Care Manager (PCM) for a panel of up to 1,300 patients. As a PCM, the provider will be the primary person responsible for the management of the health and wellness of his/her assigned patients. Duties include Direct, perform, or assist in the instruction of other health care professionals within the scope of the clinical privileges or responsibilities. Examine, diagnose, treat, or prescribe courses of treatment within the scope of training, experience, and privileges. Provide preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling. Technically direct and teach other staff, provide evidenced- based educational lectures and participate in in-service training to staff members. Order diagnostic tests as applicable as well as request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health care providers. Provide a full range of primary care pediatric nurse practitioner services in accordance with privileges granted by the MTF. Perform routine developmental screenings. Diagnose and treat common childhood illnesses. Provide anticipatory guidance regarding common child health concerns.• Provide childhood immunizations. Perform school and sports physicals. Perform therapeutic procedures and prescribe pediatric treatment and medications based on assessment results and standards of care within the scope of practice of a pediatric nurse practitioner as defined and approved on the provider privileges list. Privileges scope of care and standards of practice guidelines are as defined by the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP). Examines, diagnoses, and treats acute episodic and chronic diseases, minor traumas and behavioral/psychological problems of newborns, infants, children, and adolescents up to age 23 years. • Identifies and manages specific pediatric illnesses. Prepares and reviews case histories and clinical records of newborns, infants, children, and adolescents up to age 23 years. Note, if the applicant is a FNP, a small percentage of adults will be assigned to maintain practice currency. Secures a health and developmental history from the patient or parent; records findings and makes critical evaluation. Examines patients, determines need for radiological examinations Laboratory tests, and interprets examinations findings and test results. Also, performs or requests special screening and developmental tests and interprets the results. Provides notification to patients of results and adjusts the treatment plans as clinically warranted.

• Evaluates total health care needs of patients and develops a plan to meet these needs. Teaches patients and family member’s different ways to maintain or improve their health status.

• Provides healthcare and preventative services to pediatric patients and their family members, including age specific anticipatory guidance in growth and development, nutrition, common illnesses, safety, and discipline. Evaluates clinical practice and collaborates with health care team members as the Primary Care Manager to improve patient delivery for an empanelment of pediatric patients. Makes appropriate referrals to general pediatrician, family practice physician, and/or specialty physician as warranted.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:• Degree: Master's degree in nursing.• Education: Graduate from an academic program in the nursing specialty accredited by a recognized nursing accrediting agency (ACEN or CCNE).• Certification: National certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)• Experience:Minimum of 24 months of full-time, dedicated pediatric patient care experience as a Nurse Practitioner within the last 5 years, in a credentialed primary care setting. This experience must be in a role specifically focused on pediatric patients.

• Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license and Nurse Practitioner (NP) Licenses

• Controlled Substances: Must have and maintain an active, valid, current, and unrestricted State Controlled Substance License and be eligible to obtain a DEA license.

* Life Support Certification: Possess current ARC or AHA BLS Healthcare Provider certification. * Security: Must possess ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.
