Licensed Practical Nurse Senior - UNC Pediatrics at Knightdale

Summary:

Provides
expert-level, direct patient care, meeting both psychological and physical
needs in accordance with the plan of care, physician's orders, and nursing and
department policies and procedures. Patients range in age from neonate to
geriatric. Care may be provided in an inpatient setting, ambulatory care, home
health, or hospice. Provides
advanced clinical and leadership support to providers and other health care
team members. Works under the clinical supervision of a provider for patient
care activities and the general direction of the designated manager/supervisor.


Responsibilities:
1. Contributes to the development and maintenance of a current, individualized, goal-oriented plan of care and consults with other health professionals to assure that the assessed needs of patient/caregiver are met.
2. Observes, assesses, documents, and reports patient response to treatments/therapies and teaching, and adjusts priorities of care according to patient/caregiver needs. Collects, documents, and reports (to responsible MD or RN) data regarding patient's biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, and discharge planning needs.
3. Participates in unit, service, and/or department enrichment activities which contribute to positive outcomes such as assigned committees, CQI activities/groups, and the orientation and education of other personnel.
4. Provides a broad range of treatments/therapies to patients including, but not limited to, respiratory treatments, Oral/NG/NT suctioning, and tracheostomy care, administration of medications, observation of cardiac monitors, respirators, etc. and reporting of any changes, assistance to physician with special procedures, monitoring of intravenous infusions, performs point of care testing, performs routine laboratory work, changing/irrigating catheters, specialized sterile dressings, and patient/caregiver teaching based upon the established teaching plan.
5. Provides assistance to patients and families during admission to the clinical area, orientation to the hospital/clinic experience, and discharge.
6. Provides support to patients and families. Verbally de-escalates frightened or potentially aggressive patients. Facilitates age appropriate coping strategies for patients.
7. Interviews and orients new employees, may include: attending Hiring for Excellence (HFE) training; participating in candidate interviews and hiring decisions using HFE processes; creating/updating schedule and acting as preceptor for orientation of new employee; training other LPNs in routine clinic procedures; providing verbal and written feedback on trainee’s progress upon request.
8. Provides leadership on policies, procedures, training, and education to include: being fully knowledgeable of policies and able to educate others on necessary changes in practice; acting as a role model and advocate for compliance with policies and procedures; assessing staff training needs and working with supervisor on training and development programs; assisting with dissemination of information, education, and outreach materials to supporting training and development efforts; tracking training progression and relaying training needs to supervisor; scheduling training sessions; updating LMS classes as applicable; preparing ARC requests for signoff for system access and obtaining management signature

● Requires graduation from a state accredited program of practical nurse education.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● Licensed to practice as a Practical Nurse (LPN). BLS required.
Professional Experience Requirements:
● A minimum of three years’ of expereince as an LPN.

The UNC Medical Center Float Pool is a staffing pool for outpatient and procedural areas. We provide staff for approximately 166 clinics, the majority of which are in Chapel Hill. Individuals must be willing to commute to Chapel Hill, Raleigh, Cary, Durham, Hillsborough, Burlington, and Greensboro for their shifts. Schedules are made based on clinic needs, therefore clinic assignments can vary day-to-day, giving you an opportunity to experience a variety of specialties and teams! Our staff is expected to work both on campus (in the hospital) and at off-campus clinics. Employees are per diem and are compensated with flat hourly rates. Teammates in these roles do not qualify for PTO, FMLA, or health insurance. Individuals are expected to work a minimum of 6-eight (8) hour shifts per 6 week scheduling period and must be available to work at least 1 Monday and 1 Friday per month and an additional Monday OR Friday. Partial shifts are not available, individuals must be able to work a full 8-hour shift. We have enough shifts to work as much as 40 hours per week.
