JOB SUMMARY

Works under the direction of a qualified professional nurse. Participates in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care, within the objectives, standards, and policies of the department and within the parameters of his or her preparation. Cooperates with the members of the nursing and medical staffs and other hospital departments.

Minimum Education

  • Graduate of an accredited LPN program.
  • Current BLS certification.

Minimum Work Experience

  • Minimum one-year prior experience in inpatient medical surgical or hospital acute care setting preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential Functions

  • Provides direct and individualized nursing care to an assigned group of patients based on the application of scientific principles, under the supervision of a registered professional nurse.
  • Assists in preoperative, postoperative, and relevant health teaching for patient and family.
  • Shares responsibility for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care plans and nursing care.
  • Participates in team conferences, sharing knowledge, information, and idea among team members.
  • Prepares, administers, and records medications in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed practical nurse.
  • Performs more complex nursing activities as competence increases.
  • Participates in emergency care.
  • Communicates frequently with the team leader regarding patients' physical and mental conditions.
  • Records information concisely, accurately, and completely.
  • Identifies and utilizes appropriate channels of communication.
  • Constructively participates in appropriate committees within the nursing department and/or the hospital.
