• 36-40 hours, three, 12-hour shifts a week following orientation.

JOB SUMMARY

Performs a variety of patient care and administrative support functions under the supervision of a UVA Community Health Registered Nurse (RN) in an inpatient or outpatient setting.

• Assists patients with personal care as needed for optimal recovery during hospitalization.

Performs basic nursing skills as delegated by an RN and in accordance with policy and procedures to promote patient health and wellness.

• Provides for a safe environment and safe delivery of care.

• Performs administrative support functions.

• Maintains necessary skills and competencies.

Patient Care: Works with team members to develop or improve processes to assure a remarkable patient experience.  

  • Creates and maintains a healthy work environment that results in improved patient outcomes, retention, and organizational excellence.  
  • Collaborates with physicians to develop or improve processes surrounding care of patients. 
  • Coordinates the provision of patient care through delegation, problem solving, time management and organizational skills. 

Quality: Works in partnership with leaders to create, support, and maintain a culture of professional accountability. 

  • Partners with family and patients to resolve concerns related to the delivery of health care. 
  • Assures that team members provide care that is consistent with The Joint Commission and other regulatory requirements. 

Communication: Ensures timely and consistent communication to provide exemplary care.  

  • Provides progress updates to team members in a timely manner. 
  • Utilizes communication methods and tools to deliver information that improves quality of personal and organizational decisions.

  • Develops and implements plan for self-development and succession planning.  

The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Currently enrolled student nurses who graduate December of 2025-May 2027. BSN students who have completed their 3rd year; ASN students who have completed their 1st year. 

Students may remain employed as a Nurse Extern until graduation completion. Following graduation and board completion they will need to apply for open positions and continue through the hiring process.

Your responsibilities will include: Providing essential care for patients by helping with ADLs (Activities of Daily Living), checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort and hygiene Performing nursing tasks like wound care, catheter care, collecting specimens, and other basic procedures as you gain experience and grow in your competency Documenting care accurately and communicating timely updates with the nursing team to keep patient care seamless and coordinated Helping patients and families understand their care plans and offering guidance for their health and recovery Keeping patient areas clean and safe by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and maintaining an organized environment Championing your growth and enhancing patient care by engaging in learning opportunities, sharing ideas to improve care, and partnering with your supervisor or preceptor to build your personal career development plan What qualifications you will need: Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date Must be enrolled in an accredited nursing program (BSN strongly preferred) Preferred candidate to have completed foundation, fundamental or Med Surg I clinical Medical City Plano opened in 1975 and provides Plano and Collin County with advanced health care.
