Overview

We are seeking a Labor and Delivery RN, also referred to as a Labor & Delivery Nurse (L&D RN) or Delivery Room RN. A Labor and Delivery RN provides comprehensive care to mothers and newborns before, during, and immediately after childbirth, including monitoring vital signs, administering medications, assisting with deliveries. They also perform clinical tasks, ensure patient safety, educate families, and coordinate closely with the healthcare team to respond to both routine and emergency situations. 

 

Bonus Options:  up to $20,000

Shift’s Available:  Nights ($3.00 to $4.50 differential in pay)

Hours: 12-hour shifts – 7:00pm to 7:00am

Location: Dallas Regional Medical Center - Mesquite, TX

Responsibilities

** To move forward in this position, you have to have some experience in Labor & Delivery (L&D).

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to):

  • Maternal Monitoring: They check blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, oxygen saturation, and monitor for signs of complications like preeclampsia or infection
  • Labor Support: They assist with positioning the patient, guiding breathing techniques, and offering comfort measures like massage, cold packs, birthing balls, or hydrotherapy
  • IV Therapy: Starting and maintaining IVs for hydration, medication administration, or anesthesia
  • Patient Advocacy: Nurses act as advocates during labor, especially for patients who may have specific birth plans or cultural needs
  • Newborn Care: They dry, warm, and assess the baby immediately after birth (Apgar scoring), assist with cord clamping, and administer prophylactic medications
  • Utilize the chain of command when necessary to ensure patient well-being and appropriateness of care to newborns and mothers during the antepartum and postpartum periods

Qualifications

Before we go any further, we do have some deal-breakers. You must have: 

  • Current and valid state RN License
  • BLS certification within 30 days and maintain current
  • ACLS certification within 90 days and maintain current
  • NRP certification within 90 days and maintain current
  • Basic Fetal monitoring within 60 days of hire and maintain current
  • AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certificate within 12 months 

Additional Qualifications That Are a Plus

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree preferred
  • AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring certificate preferred
  • STABLE preferred

Regional Director of Nursing

The Regional Nursing Director is responsible for upholding the standards of nursing care as established by the Nurse Practice Act, Psychiatric Standards of Nursing, policy and procedures, and all other external governing, licensing and credentialing bodies. Essential Functions: Utilizes the principles of management/nursing to support the coordination of patient care and nursing service activities towards positive outcomes; demonstrates fiscal responsibility in facilitating staffing patterns while considering patient safety. Assists with identifying and selecting appropriate candidates for the facility Director of Nursing role. Plans and outlines general nursing procedures to be observed by professional and nonprofessional nursing personnel. Supports the DON in the supervision of nursing personnel including determining workload and delegating assignments, training, monitoring, and evaluating performance, and initiating corrective or disciplinary actions. Recommends, advocates and/or implements new and/or changes to existing policies and procedures. Contributes to problem identification, investigation, and monitoring of resolutions in providing quality care and customer satisfaction. Participates in at least 80% of all assigned administrative, quality management, program, and clinical meetings and completes assignments for those committees. Develops data collection tools, identifies trends, risk areas, and evaluates reliance of research. Coordinates with others to collect data on the quality of Nursing services; analyzes data collected and reviews overall performance improvement trends that affect the nursing department. Oversees and adheres to safety regulations of facility policies and procedures and external regulatory and credentialing bodies. Provides support and acts as a resource for development and implementation of Infection Control, standard precautions policies and procedures.
