Inpatient FT, Nights (3 - 12 Hour Shifts)

Overall Responsibility:

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, RN, performs delegated tasks and procedures of patient care, involving the physical, psychological, social, emotional, safety and security needs of the patient according to the patient plan of care.   

Key tasks and responsibilities 

  • Performs basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities including obtaining vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, blood drain management, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living and maintains patient rooms are orderly.
  • Report findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to direct nursing staff utilizing appropriate lines of authority and in a timely and effective manner.
  • Document necessary records in Electronic Health Record
  •  Uses correct body mechanics in moving patients.
  • Uses budgeted supplies and equipment judiciously.
  • Models a commitment to the organization’s vision/mission/values by assisting in keeping and being a positive attitude within unit and between departments.
  • Presents self in a professional manner, including tone of voice, eye contact and body language that models KSSH vision/mission/values.
  • Treats all patients equally in accordance with Patient Rights and acts on their behalf as the patient advocate.
  • Responsible for personal attendance and punctuality to ensure efficient and cost-effective operations of the department per facility policy.
  • Ensures a safe, supportive environment for patients and staff.
  •  Seeks guidance and assistance from the assigned nurse when knowledge base and skill level is in question.
  • Supports the efforts of the facility to improve engagement through hourly patient rounding.
  • Maintains Kansas Nurse Aide certificate and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification in good standing.
  • Must complete annual competencies as required by facility.
  • Attends staff meetings and in-services as requested.
  • Willingness to assist with other duties when asked.
  • Directly reports to Inpatient Manager

 Licensure and Certification:   High school diploma or equivalent.  Current Nurse Assistant certification in good standing within the State of Kansas.  Current BLS (Basic Life Support) required.   

Experience required: One-year CNA experience in an acute care facility or with acute care patients.   Prefer orthopedic, neurological or critical care experience. 

Environmental and physical requirements: The employee works in a temperature-controlled environment.  Employees should be able to lift up to 50 pounds using proper lifting technique several times during their shift.  Job requires physical ability for long-term standing, occasional sitting, crouching, kneeling, frequent walking, reaching with reaching above head and below waist.  Job risks include exposure to blood and body fluids (high), contact with chemicals, and exposure to infectious disease. Candidate must be able to read, write and speak English fluently, have cognitive skills for math, reading, filing and sterile technique skills.  Communication skills to interact with employees, patients, families and physicians.  Vision for near, far & mid-range, accommodation.  Hearing for low, medium, and high pitch.
