Position Responsibilities:
Assists with breastfeeding, adheres to infant abduction policy, and provides safe newborn transitional care.
- Assesses neonates at delivery, performs neonatal resuscitation, and completes initial newborn assessments on arrival.
- Performs comprehensive head-to-toe assessments on obstetrical patients and conducts system reassessments each shift.
- Manages labor patients and assists during epidural anesthesia.
- Circulates in the operating room and manages patients in the post-anesthesia recovery area.
- Maintains NPR and fetal monitoring competencies every two years.
- Obtains, documents, and updates nursing admission assessments and interdisciplinary plans of care.
- Prioritizes patient care based on problem lists and responds appropriately to diagnostic findings.
- Assesses family education and psychosocial needs daily across age, growth, and developmental stages.
- Safely initiates and documents emergency interventions, IV therapy, medication administration, and patient teaching.
- Demonstrates safe use of unit-specific equipment and follows all standard precautions and aseptic techniques.
- Performs dressing changes, specimen collection, glucose monitoring, urinary catheter insertion, and oxygen therapy.
- Reports abnormal findings immediately and coordinates efficient patient transfers with complete documentation.
- Documents patient responses, evaluates progress toward goals, and revises plans of care as needed.
- Assesses length of stay and discharge planning needs using available internal and community resources.
- Maintains annual competencies, attends mandatory trainings and meetings, and uses appropriate communication channels.
- Demonstrates leadership by delegating duties, participating in PI activities, collecting PI data, and managing daily supply charges.
Minimum qualifications:
Active Florida RN license.
- Current BLS, NRP, and ACLS certifications.
- AWHONN Intermediate certification required within 6 months of hire.
- Successful completion of fetal monitoring competency testing every 2 years.
- AWHONN Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) course required every 2 years.
- AWHONN OB Operations (OB OPS) class required every 2 years.
