POSITION SUMMARY

We seek a compassionate and dedicated Delegating Nurse for our premier retirement community,  Cogir of Potomac Assisted Living and Memory Care.   

Our Delegating Nurse (RN) plays a key role in supporting the health and well-being of our residents. In collaboration with the Resident Care Coordinator, this position delivers high-quality care through initial and ongoing health assessments, medication management, and coordinated care planning.   The Delegating Nurse oversees residents’ physical and psychosocial needs and collaborates with all departments to ensure exceptional service. This role engages regularly with residents, families, team members, vendors, and community partners. They provide training, supervision, and coaching to the clinical team while fostering a positive, energetic, and resident-centered environment. The Delegating Nurse is responsible for day-to-day clinical operations and for ensuring full compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and company policies. 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Foster a resident-centered approach to planning and delivering services, supporting residents' rights to participate in decision-making and treating residents with dignity and respect.
  • Assess residents' health, functional, and psychosocial status; initiate individualized service plans; proactively manage care and services for each resident; and maximize their opportunities to remain in the assisted living or memory care environment.
  • Establish and maintain the medication program.
  • Supervise, train, and support the med tech and care team members, promoting teamwork and adherence to care standards.
  • Hands-on training, supervision, and staff development. 
  • Assist in the transcription of physicians' orders and the review of new physicians' orders.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date resident records, including care plans, incident reports, and medical documentation.
  • Coordinate care planning with home health agencies on-site, working within community and company policies.
  • Address residents’ special needs, requests, and complaints.
  • Coordinate admissions with the sales team, including supervising move-ins.
  • Understand the community's care regulations, as well as state-specific regulations.
  • Facilitate communication between residents, families, and healthcare providers to ensure seamless care delivery. 
  •  Shared on-call responsibility, handling all clinical questions and emergencies, while the RCC manages staff-related calls. 

Requirements

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Certifications:

  • A valid, incumbent state nursing license (RN) is required.
  • Nurse Delegation certificate in MD.
  • An associate degree or higher in nursing is preferred, or a combination of education and experience. Additional coursework in management is an asset.
  • Current First Aid and CPR license or ability to obtain.

Experience, Competencies, and Skills:

  • At least four (4) years working in geriatric nursing, including experience with medication administration, delivery systems, and pharmacies.
  • At least one (1) year of relevant supervisory experience, including staff scheduling and management, is preferred. 
  • Experience with memory care is a plus.
  • Excellent attention to detail and high integrity.
  • Excellent communication skills and teamwork mindset.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Outstanding organizational skills.
  • Positive attitude, empathy, patience, and commitment to treating our residents with dignity and respect.
  • Ability and willingness to meet the shared on-call responsibility.
