What You Will Do

Delivers care to patients utilizing the RN Process
Will perform general nursing care to patients by following established standards and procedures.
Performs general nursing care to patients by following established standards and procedures. May perform specific nursing care as it relates to specialty of the practice.
Obtains patient consent for care and ensures patient confidentiality.
Obtains and documents health history, information on chief complaint, vital signs, and health risk factors and assesses disease condition.
Provides patient care based on practice guidelines, standards of care, and federal/state laws and regulations.
Executes prescribed treatments and medical interventions, administers prescribed medications, and monitors and documents treatment progress and patient response. Refers to/consults with physicians, other health providers, and community resources to prevent/resolve problems or concerns.
Educates patients and families about health status, health maintenance, and management of acute and chronic conditions.
Documents patient assessment and intervention data using established medical record forms/automated systems and documentation practices.
Participates in multidisciplinary teams to improve patient care processes and outcomes.
Tracks quality assurance data and monitors for acute and chronic care management.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Summary and Qualifications The Labor & Delivery RN coordinates and delivers high quality, patient-centered care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the department, and consistent with the scope and standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. In collaboration with medical providers and other members of the care team, the Labor & Delivery RN provides individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care using established nursing models such as “Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage.” The Labor & Delivery RN serves as an advocate for patients/families/caregivers and models a commitment to the organization’s vision/mission/values to support an unparalleled patient experience and clinical outcomes that contribute to overall departmental performance What you will do in this role: Assesses patient condition during admission and during each shift as scheduled and/or as needed, identifying and reporting any changes in patient status. Assesses patient environment for any safety risks and/or non-compliance with regulatory standards. Assesses patient pain regularly to promote effective pain management, including reassessments after appropriate intervention. Assesses patient condition for signs and symptoms of abuse or neglect. Reports any indications of abuse or neglect to medical provider(s), nurse leader, and/or appropriate agency. Performs procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s). Documents the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner. Performs the administration of prescribed medications. Monitors patient for therapeutic response. Notifies provider and intervenes as appropriate in the event of an unintended response to medication. Performs exceptional care by responding promptly to patient requests. Strives to anticipate patient needs and resolve them proactively. Teaches patients/families/caregivers about patient medical condition, patient status, treatment plan, medications and possible side effects, and follow-up measures. Translates complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding. Teaches patients/families/caregivers about any non-medicinal follow-up measures, such as healthy diet and exercise, disease prevention, and/or other lifestyle changes. Prepares patients and families/caregivers for future self-management. Manages a care team, providing oversight and delegation to members as appropriate.
