Under general supervision, the Medical Assistant I is key in supporting patient care and treatment while providing administrative and clerical assistance. The Medical Assistant I is essential in ensuring smooth clinical operations and contributing to a high standard of patient care in various healthcare settings.

Essential Job Functions

• Ensure compliance with all mandatory organizational and departmental standards, including those related to employee, patient safety, and job performance.
• Maintain competency in organizational, departmental, and external agency standards related to the environment, patient care, and safety.
• Prepare exam rooms, equipment, and supplies based on patient needs and the specific type of examination or procedure.
• Assist with patient scheduling for appointments, diagnostic tests, treatments, procedures, and surgeries. Help with registration and co-pay collection as necessary.
• Obtain and record patient medical histories, vital signs, and other relevant data.
• Assist with minor procedures and physical exams, ensuring proper documentation in the patient’s medical record.
• Collect and label laboratory specimens according to Billings Clinic policies and ensure proper handling.
• Administer basic vaccines to eligible patients aged 18 and older.
• Clean and disinfect clinical equipment following Billings Clinic’s infection control procedures and guidelines.
• Screen and direct incoming telephone calls and message center to the appropriate healthcare provider or department.
• Order and maintain clinical and office supplies and equipment as directed by supervisors.
• Maintain patient records and files, ensuring compliance with confidentiality standards and HIPAA regulations.
• Compile and report statistical data as directed.
• Attend required meetings and participate in departmental committees when necessary.
• Provide patients with basic instructions and education as directed by physicians or Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) or in accordance with department protocols.
• Collaborate with physicians, Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), RNs, LPNs, and other healthcare staff to deliver coordinated patient care.
• Assist in ensuring a positive patient experience by addressing patient concerns and providing reassurance where needed.
• Follow department-specific procedures for patient safety, infection control, and pharmaceutical handling.
• Participate in departmental activities related to patient safety and risk management as directed.
• Maintain awareness of patient safety goals and follow protocols to support a safe and effective clinical environment.
• Participate in ongoing training and development as required to maintain skills and competencies.

 

Minimum Qualifications
Education
•High School or GED High school diploma or its equivalent
•Other Completion of the MA residency or obtain certification within 12 months of hire (if applicable).
•Medical Terminology, Medication History, and New Clinic Staff Class within 6 months and/or prior to testing
