SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Labor and Delivery RN Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition. Ability to care for antenatal patients and monitor for complications and change in status. Ability to assess and care for low and moderate-risk patients in labor or high risk under close supervision of a charge nurse, during delivery, and postpartum setting and address any change in condition. Is capable of managing care of 1-2 labor patients. Able to provide family centered care for a postpartum mother and baby on the mother/baby unit. Ability to assess neonate at delivery and perform neonatal resuscitation according to current guidelines once NRP is complete. Ability to perform, on admission, a head-to-toe assessment on infants and adults and reassessments as per policy. Ability to implement a teaching plan based on identified learning needs of the patient and evaluates effectiveness of teaching (family is included as appropriate). Ability to formulate an individualized plan of care, revise plan as indicted by the patients’ response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.
