Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Maternal Quality Coordinator/Registered Nurse to join our team!

 

JOB SUMMARY: Labor & Delivery RN: provides direct patient care in the Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum setting. Provides assessment and planning for individualized patient care.  Communicates with providers about changes in patient’s clinical condition, including results of diagnostic studies.  Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.  Performs general nursing duties in the Perinatal Department.

Maternal Quality Coordinator: abstracts clinical data & reviews charts with an emphasis on maternal patients including but NOT limited to: antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum care contributing to dashboards/tables/graphs to help illustrate performance and potential Quality Improvement gaps. Assists the Quality Reporting team in successfully supporting patient quality and organizational outcomes geared towards Maternal Morbidity, meet deadlines and submission requirements for CMS reporting.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Labor and Delivery RN 

  • Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.

  • Ability to care for antenatal patients and monitor for complications and change in status.
  • Ability to assess and care for low and moderate-risk patients in labor or high risk under close supervision of a charge nurse, during delivery, and postpartum setting and address any change in condition. Is capable of managing care of 1-2 labor patients.
  • Able to provide family centered care for a postpartum mother and baby on the mother/baby unit.
  • Ability to assess neonate at delivery and perform neonatal resuscitation according to current guidelines once NRP is complete.
  • Ability to perform, on admission, a head-to-toe assessment on infants and adults and reassessments as per policy.
  • Ability to implement a teaching plan based on identified learning needs of the patient and evaluates effectiveness of teaching (family is included as appropriate).
  • Ability to formulate an individualized plan of care, revise plan as indicted by the patients’ response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and the skill necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patients served.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of fetal monitoring according to AWHONN.  Identifies FHR patterns and intervenes appropriately and promptly.
  • Communicates appropriately and clearly to charge nurse, co-workers and providers.
  • Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for the interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
  • Demonstrates and ability to assist providers with procedures in the perinatal unit.
  • Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful and emergent situations.
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formations of the plan of care.  Reevaluates plan of care each shift.

  • Written and computer documentation meet current standards and polices.  Documents in EMR system accurately and per policy and AWHONN standards.
  • Identifies and addressed psychosocial needs of patients and family.
  • Manages and operates all equipment safely and correctly. Reports broken equipment immediately per protocol.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, staff meetings and workshops; shows responsibility for own professional practice in ongoing education.  Attends staff meetings.
  • Demonstrates the ability to use HealthStream and completes assigned modules.
  • Demonstrates the ability to access PolicyStat and acknowledges assigned policies.
  • Reads emails at least weekly.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Nurse Quality Maternal Coordinator/Clinical Analyst

  • Help meet goals and objectives for Clinical Quality Reporting
  • Coordinates with Clinical Nurse Reporting Supervisor to meet data collection requirements to support timely completion and validation of all public reporting projects for Inpatient and Outpatient Quality Core Measures, CMS, and Commercial Payers.
  • Build and collaborate on reports that will help the organization(s) monitor quality of care and report metrics as needed, focused on maternal morbidity measures.
  • Complete appropriate data extracts, reports, and submissions and ensure they are handled in a timely manner and in accordance with program specifications.
  • Communicates with Clinical Nurse Reporting Supervisors to share quality outcomes and opportunities related to the Clinical Quality Reporting team's work that may help various departments of the hospital(s).
  • Works with Point of Care, Cerner, IT and other teams to identify technical solutions that can make current and on-going work more efficient and effective.
  • Maintains knowledge of the business content, analytical methods, diverse data sources, and IT systems necessary to achieve unit, division and department goals.
  • Supports and strengthens organizational priorities such as data transparency, security and compliance across analytics projects.
  • Always provides hands-on frontline work of data abstraction and identification of correct quality processes.
  • Helps with Clinical Data entry as required for different measures including but not limited to electronic clinic quality measures.
  • Monitor EHR clinical dashboard(s) to ensure capture of data for quality measures for the hospital(s).

Qualifications


Education/Certification: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a current valid RN license with the state of Idaho.

Proof of completion of the following courses is required either at time of hire, or within the time frame designated:

  • BLS at the time of hire or within 14 days of employment
  • AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring Principles and Practice prior to completion of labor orientation or as soon as possible, or current RNC-EFM. Renew every 2 years or maintain EFM.
  • NRP within 6 months of hire 
  • ACLS within 6 months of hire
  • STABLE within 6 months of hire
  • Complete all required Labor and Maternal Newborn orientation competencies prior to coming off orientation, and thereafter attend biannual skills lab to maintain competency.  
  • Complete QMP-OB, Baby Catching, & Scrub competencies within 6 months

 Experience: Previous labor and/or postpartum experience preferred. Quality reporting experience and previous experience with clinical processes and patient care a major plus.

Equipment/Technology:  Able to use I.V. pumps, radiant warmer, fetal monitoring devices, leg compression devices, PCA pump and respiratory equipment, etc. Use of computers and Electronic Health Record software is required. Experience with spreadsheet and database applications like Excel, Business Objects, SQL. Experience with clinical operations, billing and reporting requirements also preferred, but not required.

Language/Communication:  Excellent communication skills and leadership capability. Medical record review/abstraction knowledge in multiple specialties. Excellent collaboration, interpersonal, meeting facilitation, presentation, written, listening, and verbal communication skills. Ability to identify and report trends in data that could indicate a process/procedure change needs to take place. Use of problem solving and planning skills with the Clinical Nurse Reporting Supervisor, to improve the quality metrics for the hospital(s). Dynamic presentation skills and ability to develop clear and presentable documentation required.

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.  Ability to apply and understand concepts such as fractions, percentages, graphs, ratios and proportions to practical situations.  Ability to calculate drug dosages.          

Mental Capabilities:  Possess critical thinking and organizational skills.  Ability to prioritize patient care for safety and best optimal outcome.  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Qualifications Education/Certification: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a current valid RN license with the state of Idaho. Proof of completion of the following courses is required either at time of hire, or within the time frame designated: BLS at the time of hire or within 14 days of employment AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring Principles and Practice prior to completion of labor orientation or as soon as possible, or current RNC-EFM. Renew every 2 years or maintain EFM. NRP within 6 months of hire ACLS within 6 months of hire STABLE within 6 months of hire Complete all required Labor and Maternal Newborn orientation competencies prior to coming off orientation , and thereafter attend biannual skills lab to maintain competency. Complete QMP-OB, Baby Catching, & Scrub competencies within 6 months Experience : 3 years previous labor and/or postpartum experience (preferred) Equipment/Technology: Basic Computer Skills. Able to use I.V. pumps, radiant warmer, fetal monitoring devices, leg compression devices, PCA pump and respiratory equipment, etc. Language/Communication: Excellent communication skills and leadership capability. Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Ability to calculate drug dosages . Mental Capabilities: Possess critical thinking and organizational skills. Ability to prioritize patient care for safety and best optimal outcome. Evidence of 10 hours of ongoing education per year License/Certifications: Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Maine.
