BECOME A CRITICAL CARE CORE CHARGE NURSE (RN) AT CHKD
As a Critical Care (C/C) Core Charge Nurse at CHKD, you will provide leadership and support to nursing staff while maintaining an active and visible clinical presence on the unit. This key role is located within our Emergency Department, where you’ll partner with Nursing directors, managers, and senior leadership to promote safe, high-quality, and efficient care for our pediatric patients.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Leading and overseeing critical care nursing staff during assigned shifts.
- Collaborating with Nursing leadership to establish and achieve departmental priorities.
- Utilizing the nursing process to provide comprehensive, age-appropriate care for critically ill patients and families.
- Managing recruitment, onboarding, performance evaluations, and staff development.
- Coaching and mentoring nurses to promote clinical excellence and teamwork.
- Ensuring appropriate staff assignment and resource allocation to meet patient care needs.
- Providing leadership during urgent or emergent patient care situations.
- Promoting communication, collaboration, and problem-solving across departments.
- Supporting performance improvement, education, and research initiatives.
- Performing other duties as assigned to support department and hospital operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated leadership and clinical expertise in critical care nursing.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment and prioritize effectively.
- Commitment to confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Enthusiastic team player with a proactive approach to problem solving.
License and Certification Requirements:
- Registered Nurse (RN) License in Virginia or Compact State equivalent.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC).
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required at hire or within 3 years.
- Three or more years of clinical nursing experience in a collaborative, team-based environment, preferably in critical care.
