Job Summary: The Certified Medical Assistant is a key component of our team that works closely with the primary care physician to deliver excellent patient care to our community, ensuring services are provided within the Medical Assisting scope and state guidelines. The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for reviewing and updating health records, measuring vital signs, and preparing treatment rooms for upcoming examinations. The LPN functions as an integral part of the health care team to provide the highest quality of care to the patient by preparing and assessing patients for provider visits. In this position, the LPN will observe, record, and report patient responses to medical care provided during appointments. Essential Job Functions • Analyzes the assessment data, evaluates patient's condition, and collaborates with the provider to develop and maintain the patient's plan of care. • Provides education to patients, families, and staff members, in conjunction with other healthcare entities, under the direction of the provider or manager. • Coordinates the care of the patient with other healthcare entities according to the patient's plan of care. • Administers medications in a safe manner, which is consistent with the organizations policies and procedures as well as the state requirements with which they are licensed in. • LPNs in a lead position serve as subject matter experts and clinical and professional mentors within the practice. Employment Status: Full time Shift: Day (United States of America) Facility: 150 Market Ridge Ln - Daleville Requisition Number: R153635 LPN Outpatient, Obstetrics & Gynecology - Float Pool (Open) How You’ll Help Transform Healthcare: Provides practical nursing support in the delivery of quality care for the patient in a physician practice or clinic setting as directed by the physician or mid-level practitioner. Complies with all federal, state, local, Carilion Clinic, and departmental policies and standards as applicable. Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patients served. Provides nursing care for patients of all ages. Completes patient assessment to include height, weight, vital signs, chief complaint, current medications, etc. Prepares patient for provider evaluation, including obtaining specimens, positioning for exams, listing medications, assisting during exams and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Coordinates tele-retinal and tele-dermatology clinic set up. Administers medications and injections as directed by the provider. Maintains work area, exam, treatment and x-ray rooms and lab in a clean, safe manner; restock with supplies and instruments; sterilize reusable equipment as needed. Documents and maintains patient information in the electronic medical record in a timely manner to include update treatment procedures, medication refills, test results, patient concerns, etc. Contributes to Carilion Clinic's performance improvement activities. Provides patient teaching as indicated and directed by the provider, including lab results, diet instructions, medication instructions, appropriate follow-up, and reinforcing provider instructions as needed. Assists with referral authorizations for specialists and pre-authorizations for testing and ancillary services. Assists with lab procedures, including collecting urine specimens, collecting and preparing blood samples for reference lab, labeling all specimens with accurate patient ID. Observes all safety precautions and standards; assures proper disposal of specimens and contaminated waste. LAB (if applicable) Performs lab procedures as directed by the provider including phlebotomy, peripheral sticks, collecting and preparing urine specimens, throat smears; conduct lab testing onsite after appropriate training, including waived and moderate complexity studies. Prepares equipment to begin testing lab specimens. Runs daily quality control tests as directed by lead clinical/lab staff. Adheres to quality control measures with all lab procedures, performing proficiency testing and conducting control testing and calibration on all equipment. Maintains Q/A Plan. What We Require: Education : Graduate of accredited school of practical nursing required, or new graduate of approved program eligible to sit for the Virginia licensure exam. Experience : One (1) year experience in a physician office preferred. Licensure/Certification : Current licensure as a Practical Nurse in the State of Virginia (LPN) required. Licensure as a Radiologic Technician Limited if performing radiology. Current AHA BLS-HCP certification required. Other : Customer driven.
