The Mass General Cancer Center Protocol Office (CCPO) conducts multi-phase studies in the outpatient setting at the MGH Cancer Center.

Current licensure as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required.
BSN preferred
Min 2 years Oncology Nursing experience required
The hours are 4 ten-hour shifts, M-F, 7am-5:30pm, set schedule with possibility of one remote day.
CCPO Research Nurses are responsible for screening and enrolling patients for trials, patient education, triage phone support for patients in between treatment visits, symptom management, expert knowledge of protocols, meticulous documentation, and strong advocacy for patients while they are on trial.
CCPO Research nurses work closely with Infusion RNs, APPs and Physicians within the Cancer Center to support patients on clinical trials and to meticulously adhere to the protocol.
Research RNs support the organizational mission and the Cancer Center investment in clinical research and making clinical trials accessible to more patients from diverse and underserved communities.
Supported by a Nursing Director, Nurse Managers and Nursing Practice Specialists, this team is responsible for establishing standards of care, initiating quality improvement projects, and setting and supporting the overall tone for excellent patient care.
Acts as a resource to the multi-disciplinary care team related to protocol specifications such as administration guidelines for investigational agents.
Documents research nurse encounters in the medical record including patient education, required protocol assessments including adverse events, oral study drug adherence, protocol deviations, phone encounters and follow-up.

Job Summary
The Clinical Research Nurse (CRN) in collaboration with the physician investigator, is responsible for the implementation and conduct of clinical trials in one or more specific disease programs/areas. The CRN has expert knowledge of the disease under study, treatment modalities, and the process of conducting clinical research, in particular interventional studies. The CRN functions as a member of both the research team as well as the clinical care team, acting as a liaison between the two entities. They collaborate with the care team to ensure that patients participating in clinical trials along with their families and loved ones receive comprehensive care to meet their physical, psychological, and social needs.
Qualifications
Administrative Research Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with the research team to establish processes and workflows that ensure protocol compliance, complete and accurate data collection and documentation and sample acquisition.
- Develops educational programs/tools for non-research clinical staff regarding specific protocols
- Reviews new protocols and protocol amendments for nursing and operational feasibility
- Reviews investigational order sets for protocol compliance
Clinical Research Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with attending physicians to identify and recruit patients eligible for clinical trials.
- Provides education to patients who are considering and/or participating in clinical trials along with their families/significant others
- Collaborates with the research team to coordinate study screening and enrollment; protocol treatment and follow-up care for patients participating in clinical trials.
- Collaborates with primary nursing staff providing care to patients receiving investigational treatment to ensure patient safety in implementing research protocols
- Acts as a resource to the multi-disciplinary care team related to protocol specifications such as administration guidelines for investigational agents.
- Documents research nurse encounters in the medical record including patient education, required protocol assessments, oral study drug adherence, protocol deviations.
- In collaboration with investigators and other caregivers, assesses patients on study for complications related to therapy.
