The 10-week Student Nurse Intern (SNI) program provides nursing students the opportunity to enhance their understanding of the nursing profession while working alongside a registered nurse. The MN Nurse Practice Act exemption language requires nursing students to be enrolled in a nursing course in an approved nursing program to participate in a summer internship experience. Through the course, baccalaureate and associate enrolled nursing students work alongside their designated nurse preceptor which assists in bridging the gap between school and practice.

The paid internship allows nursing students to experience working full time (0.75-0.9 FTE) on Day, Evening, or Night shifts in a clinical setting under the direct supervision of a clinical nurse. Schedules will match their preceptors’ schedule and can be 8 or 12 hours shifts or a combination and may include weekends and holidays.

Students will have the opportunity to work in one of the following areas:

  • Neonatal (NICU, ICC, SCN)
  • Critical Care (ED, CVICU, PICU)
  • Acute Med/Surg (Neuro, LSU, Hem/Onc)
  • Peri-Operative (OR/PACU)
  • Inpatient Mental Health
  • Ambulatory - Hem/Onc Clinic

Qualifications:

* Enrolled in a pre-licesure associate, baccalaureate or masters degree nursing program graduating between August 2026 to May 2027.

* Agrees to enroll in a Summer Intern course at a university or college within Minnesota for the duration of the internship.

* Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:     

* Proficient communication, critical thinking, and prioritization skills required

* Strong organizational skills

* Excellent customer service skills

* Must be able to read, write, and speak effectively in English to perform functions of the position

* Skills in basic computer operation

The posted salary represents a market competitive range based on salary survey benchmark data for similar roles in the local or national market. When determining individual pay rates, we carefully consider a wide range of factors including but not limited to market indicators for the specific role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate, internal equity and organizational needs.

In addition to your salary, this position may be eligible for medical, dental, vision, retirement, and other fringe benefits. Positions that require night, weekend or on-call work may be eligible for shift differentials or premium pay.
