Position Overview
The Hospice Support Caregiver – Non-Medical provides compassionate, non-medical assistance to clients and their families during end-of-life care. The focus of this role is to enhance comfort, maintain dignity, and provide emotional and practical support while following the hospice care plan. Caregivers in this role ensure a safe, clean, and supportive environment while respecting the unique needs and wishes of each client and family.
Essential Functions
- Provide comfort and companionship to clients in hospice care.
- Offer non-medical support such as assistance with bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and repositioning.
- Help maintain a safe and peaceful environment, including light housekeeping, laundry, and meal/snack preparation when appropriate.
- Follow the hospice care plan and report any changes in the client’s physical or emotional condition.
- Maintain strict confidentiality by adhering to HIPAA guidelines and company policies.
- Document daily care activities and communicate with other caregivers to ensure continuity of care.
- Respect the client’s dignity, cultural beliefs, and end-of-life wishes at all times.
Skills/Qualifications
- Strong compassion and empathy in supporting clients and families during sensitive times.
- Ability to provide gentle personal care while maintaining dignity and respect.
- Good communication skills for interacting with families, clients, and the care team.
- Emotional resilience and ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Knowledge of safe mobility and transfer techniques preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred.
Education/Experience Requirements
- CNA, HHA, or equivalent caregiving experience preferred.
- Current certifications in First Aid, CPR, and TB test (or willingness to obtain).
- Successful completion of background check and drug screening, with random checks thereafter.
- Physical ability to perform required duties, including safe lifting and assisting with mobility.
