The New Hampshire Veterans Home has full-time vacancies for Licensed Nursing Assistant Students.

Program Schedule:

6:45am - 3:15pm (Monday - Friday)

Summary:

Under the direct supervision of licensed nursing staff, provides essential support and direct care to residents by assisting with daily living activities, monitoring health conditions, and ensuring a safe, clean, comfortable, and enriching environment.

Your Experience Counts

Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent credential

License/Certification:

  • NH Nursing Assistant license
  • Driver’s license
Other Requirements:

  • May be required to work non-traditional work hours to meet the needs of the facility
  • Must possess physical stamina for prolonged standing and to perform tasks such as lifting, transferring, and transporting residents and materials
Trainee Option:

Candidates without a high school diploma or equivalent credential, or without a NH Nursing Assistant license, may be considered and hired in 'trainee status' for this position. Individuals hired in ‘trainee status’ will have their responsibilities adjusted as necessary for compliance with facility credentialling.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in long-term or geriatric care setting or other role involved in the provision of medical care. Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. CPR and First Aid certification.

AFTER-HIRE REQUIREMENTS:

If hired in trainee status, must obtain a NH Nursing Assistant license within 6 months of hire. Candidates may be able to obtain their license through participation in onsite training program.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including getting out of bed, bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, standing, walking, or exercising. Ensures proper dietary intake and adequate hydration and that dietary restrictions and preferences are observed. Supports mobility by helping residents move between beds and wheelchairs, and transferring residents to special functions, trips, appointments, and other activities within and outside the facility.
  • Utilizes appropriate equipment and follows established safety protocols to ensure resident’s comfort and dignity. Adapts techniques and frequency based on individual needs and preferences and established care plans. Promotes independence in meeting individual needs.
  • Acts in accordance with established care plans; participates in Plan of Care meetings as assigned/needed. Documents care provided and individual’s behavior/response; maintains accurate records. Monitors and records vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, and pulse, as well as food/liquid intake and urinary/fecal output. Collects specimens for routine laboratory testing. Reports changes in residents’ physical, mental, or emotional condition to a supervisor or more senior nursing staff in a timely manner.
  • Replenishes charts and retrieves, stocks, and distributes medical supplies and personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. Reports any shortages.
  • Follows infection control protocols and safety procedures. Maintains cleanliness and hygiene in resident rooms and common areas. Performs daily assigned tasks such as clothing distribution, emptying laundry hampers, and cleaning furniture.
  • Prepares residents for appointments and medical team consults. Provides a level of security/support for the resident.
  • Demonstrates empathy and patience in providing care and assistance. Encourages and maintains open communication and positive interactions with residents, families, guardians, and other visitors.
  • Attends and participates in in-service educational programs as well as organization meetings and committees. Responds to supervision and works cooperatively with others in provision of care and operation of facility.
