Summary

The Education Quality Coordinator (EQC) is an experienced nurse who coordinates and participates in the provision of education and nursing quality improvement. The EQC evaluates, monitors, and improves the quality of nursing care at Rush University Medical Center. The EQC plans, implements, and evaluates educational activities to promote high standards of nursing practice throughout the Division of Nursing. The EQC reports to the Director and has accountability to the clinical Nursing Directors for department specific activities. The EQC is a leader and a role model exemplifying the Rush mission, vision, and values while acting in accordance with Rush University Medical Center policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and leads formal and informal educational programs based on nursing evidence for staff.
  • Initiates and/or participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of Standards of Care and Standards of Practice.
  • Leads activities that evaluate current practice and stimulate changes in nursing practice.
  • Uses the results of quality monitoring data and other evidence/based content to plan and conduct annual competency verification activities that assure compliance with Rush, The Joint Commission, Illinois Department of Public Health and professional association standards.
  • Serves as a role model to nursing staff by demonstrating skilled interpersonal communication while involved in programs at Rush.
  • Fosters and continuously improves professional relationships within an interdisciplinary team to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Analyzes and interprets clinical data, benchmark comparison data and other quality monitoring data.
  • Identifies issues through interpretation of quality data and assists in the coordination of quality improvement activities for assigned departments as negotiated with the Nursing Directors.
  • Mentors staff in the development and application of critical thinking in order to manage complex patients, care for changing patient conditions and understand quality improvement data/activities.
  • Reviews specific patient cases to determine compliance with standards for nursing practice and reports findings to unit managers, unit advisory committee, department advisory committee, and appropriate PNS standing committees.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates programs at the division-wide and the department level.
  • Identifies educational needs of nursing staff in order to develop, implement and evaluate continued education programs, product in-services, and other staff development activities
  • Coordinates the necessary tools, information, resources, and personnel for special programs and projects at Rush.
  • Achieves certification as a Basic Life Support (BLS) instructor within one year of hire and maintains this certification.
  • Serves and leads as an expert in quality improvement process, tools and methodologies.
  • Assumes a leadership role in facilitating division-wide innovations.
  • Serves on Medical Center, Division of Nursing, and Professional Nursing Staff process improvement committees as designated.
