The Director of Nursing is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and directing the overall operations of the Nursing Department. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, while upholding the highest standards of quality care.


Director of Nursing (DON) Responsibilities

  • Oversee, plan, and evaluate nursing services, programs, and activities in alignment with governing regulations.

  • Develop, implement, and update policies and procedures to support daily nursing operations.

  • Provide written and verbal reports to the Administrator regarding departmental activities.

  • Coordinate nursing services with other resident services to ensure continuity of care.

  • Maintain confidentiality of resident care information in compliance with HIPAA.

Director of Nursing (DON) Qualifications

  • Current Registered Nurse license in good standing.

  • Minimum 1 years of supervisory experience in a hospital, nursing facility, or related healthcare setting.

  • Current CPR certification.

  • Strong knowledge of nursing practices, medical procedures, and regulatory requirements.

  • Effective communication and leadership skills; ability to work collaboratively with staff, residents, families, and regulatory agencies.

Director of Nursing (DON) Staffing and Supervision

  • Determine and assign appropriate staffing levels of RNs, LPNs, and CNAs to ensure quality resident care.

  • Develop work assignments and schedules; delegate authority and responsibilities appropriately.

  • Conduct daily rounds to monitor performance and compliance with care standards.

  • Partner with HR to complete annual evaluations and ensure fair disciplinary practices.
