The 2100 Inpatient Unit at BJWCH consists of Orthopedic, Spine, Urological, and Plastic Surgery patients. We are a short-stay unit that strives to provide our patients with an exceptional post-operative experience in order for them to discharge home safely.

Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital offers highly specialized surgical and medical services in an intimate environment and is known for outstanding patient care. With 64 private patient rooms, 14 operating rooms and four intensive care unit rooms, the facility was designed to provide a comforting environment that is innovative, efficient and centered on the patient experience. The campus features a park-like setting with landscaping and a walking path that winds through the grounds and connects to Millennium Park.

Med/Surg 2 manages patients with Orthopedic, Spine, Urological, Plastics and other general post-surgical conditions. Because of our patient acuity, we provide advanced training to maintain nurses at the highest level of functioning. The unit is led by a clinical manager and lead charge nurse. Additionally, the unit works in collaboration with a case manager, social worker, physical therapist, dietitian, and pharmacist. This multidisciplinary team works in conjunction with the physicians, nurses, and patient care technicians to provide quality patient care.

Participates in professional development.Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position.
