  • OrthoIndy Hospital Westfield, located in Westfield, Indiana, opened four operating rooms on April 1, 2024 and provides outpatient procedures and surgeries!   Our Westfield location also provides outpatient care for patients that includes an urgent care clinic, clinics, imaging and physical therapy. 

General Statement of Duties: 

The Registered Nurse Surgery provides nursing care and services in the four operating rooms; assisting the physician and scrub staff during surgical procedures, including circulating duties, and directing non-professional personnel. Surgery Registered Nurse duties include, but are not limited to positioning the patient, assisting anesthesia during induction, prepping the patient, opening sterile packages, documentation, operating equipment and obtaining necessary supplies.

Essential Duties:

  1. Prepares setup, materials, medications, and equipment for cases as needed and assists surgeons in all types of procedures as required. Preps the surgical site using aseptic technique. Maintains operating room and equipment in a functional manner.
  2. Prepares, operates and monitors the use of various systems, equipment, and instrumentation required for the care of patients.
  3. Monitors overall patient care and reports any unusual occurrence, circumstances, or discrepancies to the supervisor.
  4. Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the health care team, to ensure quality of care.
  5. Performs sponge, needle, and sharp counts according to policy and procedure.
  6. Correctly collects and accurately labels specimens.
  7. Maintains inventory control of supplies and medications, including appropriate records and documentation.
  8. Reviews and verifies patient information, identification, and chart forms.
  9. Supervises and teaches members of the surgical team.
  10. Confines and contains sources of contaminations.
  11. Reviews and revises surgeon’s preference cards and communicates changes to appropriate personnel.
  12. Performs and records the order of Physician’s including administration of medications.
  13. Assists with patient care in the pre and post-operative areas as needed.

Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred from a nationally accredited nursing program
  • 1-2 years of Registered Nurse surgery experience required; 2-4 years preferred
  • Currently licensed as a registered nurse in the State of Indiana required
  • CPR, ACLS certifications required

SUMMARY: The RN Unit Manager performs professional supervisory nursing practice in the care of the physically and mentally ill. Work involves responsibility for supervising the provision of quality nursing care given at the facility. The position is responsible for maintaining the quality and adequacy of nursing practice; for coordinating nursing programs; for recognizing and assisting in solving professional, administrative and supervisory problems. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Determines the optimal allocation of present staff, per shift and assignment on each unit is present. Coordinates the care of patients on assigned shift. Communicates shifts concerns by unit to appropriate staff (via e-mails, voice mail, etc.). Review of 24 Hour Report and review patients as indicated for change of condition. Serves as administrative authority for the smooth function of all units. Notifies Director or Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing, Scheduler/Central Supply of urgent concerns during the shift. When the concern is non-urgent, notifies manager by phone message or e-mail. Receives employee, resident and family grievances. Refers information to appropriate manager. Assists nurses in completing risk assessments and investigations of injury. Notifies Assistant Director of Nursing and Human Resources Director of identified learning needs. Receives employee call-offs. Records call-offs and updates schedule. Notifies managers/supervisors of call-offs in their units via voice mail. Replaces for absences and vacancies for upcoming shift(s). Assists staff to pick up hours (call-in phone, e-mail, vacancy lists, 72-hour availability list). Directs staff response to emergencies, such severe weather, fire or bomb scare. Participates in fire drills. Directs disaster evacuation plan, as needed. Meets routinely with the Director of Nursing and Assistant Director of Nursing. Assists with the development and implementation of nursing policies and procedures.
