Job Summary 

  • As supervised and delegated by an LPN, provides direct patient care in the clinical setting. 

Essential Functions

  • To perform this job, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation. 
  • Interacts professionally with patients/families; treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families. 
  • Effectively and appropriately communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers, demonstrating customer service excellence through application of positive language principles, appropriate response and use of constructive problem-solving techniques which foster positive outcomes. 
  • Provides direct patient care, consults with nursing staff/providers as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care. 
  • Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain.  Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques.  Educates the patient and family regarding pain management. 
  • Demonstrates knowledge of lab requirements, requisitions. 
  • Collects a baseline summary of a patient’s medical to include, check and record a patient's body temperature, pulse, respiration weight and blood pressure. 
  • Maintains accurate and continued documentation appropriately for all assessments, treatments, and evaluations performed. Documentation meets current standards and policies. 
  • Decisions made reflect knowledge of facts, knowledge of diseases/surgical conditions, care required and good judgment. 
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over patient life span and the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patient population served. 
  • Able to interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group.
Qualifications

Education

  • Licensed Practical Nursing Degree, Required 

Licenses/Certifications 

  • Must have current license in the state of practice or compact state license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification, within 90 days of hire or transfer. 

Experience

  • Requirements will include successful completion of orientation checklist and skills/credentials/competency requirements of specific area of work. 
  • Able to maintain a high awareness of patient satisfaction and teamwork. 
  • Attention to detail. 
  • Ability to respond to and cope with emergency situations professionally and calmly. 
  • Adaptable to performing well under pressure in a stressful environment and taking appropriate action. 
  • Must be flexible, able to work as needed for appropriate departmental coverage. 
  • Basic computer knowledge; become proficient in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems. 
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. 
  • Demonstrates proficient time management skills. 
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security. Additional languages preferred.
