Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Responsibilities:

Function as a scrub person during operative and other invasive procedures.
Clean and prepare surgical instruments for processing and transport them to the decontamination areas.
Assist with post procedure cleaning of the operative or other invasive procedure room and preparation of room for subsequent patients.
Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Requirements:

High School Graduate or equivalent.
Graduate of a recognized and accredited SurgicalTechnologistProgram.
Prior Experience as a Surgical Technologistpreferred.
Current Surgical Technologist certificationpreferred.
Successful completion of BLS Course within 90 days of employment or documentation of current BLS certification.

This is a regular PRN position with caregivers working day shifts between 7:00 a.m. -- 3:30 p.m., for approximately 8–16 hours per week, with Tuesdays and Wednesdays being the primary days typically needed. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Perform scrub functions and assist in circulating functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN). Set up the sterile table and ensure appropriate supplies, drugs and equipment are available. Assist RN in counting all sponges, instruments, etc. at appropriate times during surgery. Assist in gowning and gloving surgical team members and draping patients. Ensure aseptic condition is maintained by the scrubbed surgical team through the procedure. Participate in the intraoperative “timeout.” Collect, identify and label specimens removed during surgical procedures and gives specimens to circulator for disposition. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program accredited through CCAAHEP or ABHES OR Certification as a Surgical Technologist (TS-C or CST) OR completion of a military Surgical Technology Program Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Certified Surgical Technologist Certification Physical Requirements: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
