Summary

Under the direction of, and in collaboration with unit management, performs responsibilities exercising initiative, judgment and independent decision-making within the scope of the State Nurse Practice Act, hospital policy and other governing organizations. Utilizes the nursing process (assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation) in a systematic approach to the direct and indirect care of patients and their families.

Job Duties

  • Provide quality care in multiple settings: Pediatrics, Medical, Surgical (inpatient/outpatient), Emergency, Senior Care, Nursery, Chemotherapy and Ambulance Transport as needed/delegated.
  • Maintains certifications in all areas within scope of practice
  • Supervision of LPNs, Nursing Assistants and Health Unit Coordinators as needed.
  • Effectively utilize nursing process: Demonstrates effective interviewing and assessment skills and integrates new or current techniques to obtain physical/psycho-social information from the patient/family to plan, implement, and evaluate patient care through the nursing process. Initiates and maintains patient care plan to reflect current patient needs utilizing computerized documentation.
  • Customer Service: Respects the privacy and dignity of every customer, internal or external. Is courteous and friendly, uses a quiet, respectful tone of voice when speaking with customers. Follows hospital policies regarding confidential or sensitive information; is Sensitive to cultural differences.
  • Initiative: Completes duties assigned without hesitation and in a timely manner; accepts direction well, is highly productive; works independently as position requires; accepts constructive criticism; demonstrates good time management skills; demonstrates a willingness to train new staff.

Required Education and Experience

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Minnesota.
  • Minimum 1-year previous Emergency Department experience.
  • Must successfully complete criminal background check as required by the State of Minnesota.
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support ACLS
  • Knowledge of nursing principles, policies, procedures and medical ethics equivalent to years of experience.
  • Excellent communication skills across disciplines and at various levels.
  • Ability to work in a team setting.
  • Possession of attention to detail, organization and prioritization skills.
  • Computer skills including Word.

JOB DESCRIPTION Summary The position works under the direction of, and in collaboration with the Acute Care/Emergency Department, Director of Nursing, and providers, to ensure quality patient care and compliance with regulatory standards for the area. The position will provide oversight to nursing care while leading, coaching, mentoring, and instructing clinical staff. This will include assistance in providing orientation and ongoing training and development. The ADON will provide clinical assistance during times of high volume, high patient acuity, or emergency call-ins until a replacement can be determined. The job requires highly professional communication with patients, families, medical staff, ancillary departments and administration. Other major job functions include collection and reporting of quality data, documentation audits, rounding on patients and staff, and monitoring variances from expected outcomes.
