Job Description

Plans, implements and evaluates nursing care to adult and pediatric patients. Responsible for supervising other licensed and non-licensed staff. Responsible for promoting positive interactions with staff, physicians, patients, families and other visitors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

  • Maintains current knowledge of medications and administers medications in accordance with the hospital policy.
  • Demonstrates positive effective communication, including education with patients and families, physicians and other healthcare team members, and professional communications skills.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in using the electronic medical record providing accurate, timely and complete documentation of plan of care and assessments and respect of patient’s rights and confidentiality.
  • Provide a safe environment for patients, families and co-workers, including hand-washing, and adherence to infection control policies.
  • Demonstrate professionalism including current AED’s and other competencies, following dress code policies, participation in orientation of new team members.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Participation in ongoing learning including plans to advance education preferred.
  • Current State of Texas License as a Vocational Nurse
  • Area of specialty certification (Certified Med-Surg, or OCN) preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. The individual must be able to: Ø Stand, walk, sit, stoop, reach, lift, see, speak and hear. Lifting is limited to 35 lbs. for clinical staff and to 50 lbs. for non-clinical staff. The monitored heart rate, heart rhythm, breathing and more is communicated to a monitoring station for a medical professional to view. 9 Central is home to the Dr. Abdul Kadir Stroke Center of Excellence. Nurses working on this 9 Central unit know that their nursing skills will be utilized with important, time-sensitive work that save lives. These nurses help patients recover and regain much more function than they might have otherwise experienced.
