DEFINITION OF POSITION:

The Interventional Radiology (IR)Nurse Manager will oversee and coordinate care between Diagnostic Imaging and the Operating Room.  They will also oversee the use and function of the IR suite.  The IR Nurse Manager will report to the Surgical Services Director.

The Nurse Manager is responsible for a working knowledge of the medical/legal and accreditation aspects of nursing for their own department.  The Nurse Manager provides direct supervision of the RN's, LPN's, Scrub Techs, Peri Operative Aides, CNA's, Unit clerks in their department.  The Nurse Manager works with the shift supervisor to coordinate the activities of the department for the 24 hour period. 


Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:
1. Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
2. Manage the IR area both operationally and fiscally.
3. Verify that IR personnel provide safe patient care in the area managed.
4. Incorporate and assist with IR personnel with assimilating evidence-based practices into patient care.
5. Assist IR personnel in evaluating practice and creating strategies for further improvement.
6. Verify that educational resources are available for IR team education and hold perioperative personnel accountable for attendance and completion.
7. Coordinate, facilitate, and manage change within the surgical area.
8. Demonstrate effective communication, consultation, negotiation, and collaboration skills with members of the perioperative team and other stakeholders.
9. Collect and analyze data related to performance improvement projects that apply to the area managed.
10. Use effective conflict resolution techniques.
11. Facilitate or serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning perioperative patient care.
12. Evaluate IR perioperative personnel performance.
13. Interview for IR perioperative personnel selection.
14. Verify that necessary IR perioperative personnel, equipment, and supplies are available.
15. Verify IR perioperative personnel compliance with organizational policies and procedures and regulatory and accreditation standards.
16. Provide guidance, support, and constructive feedback to IR surgical team.
17. Exhibit professional, interpersonal, and communication skills.
18. Use effective project management principles.
19. Pursue professional growth and participate in a professional organization.
20. Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Education
Required: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. Evidence of continuing education appropriate for nurse manager and specific area.
Desired: BSN in nursing, certificate in specialty area
B. Experience
Required: Interventional radiology.
Desired: Previous manager experience.
C. Licenses, Certificates and/or Registrations
Current RN license in the State of Oregon; certification in specialty area preferred.
D. Equipment/Tools/Work Aides
Infusion pumps, PCA pumps, and other medical equipment, computer terminal printer, photocopier, and patient charts.
E. Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Possesses knowledge of the scope and complexity of the patient's age-specific, cultural, physical, and psychosocial well-being served by the hospital. Mathematical computational skills, able to communicate therapeutically. Self-motivated, responsible, role model, well organized.
F. Other
Bilingual and/or English-Spanish speaking preferred. Ability to work with culturally diverse population.
